This 3D Eye Mask Looks Like It Belongs In The Year 3008 — And That’s Not The Only Reason Why I’m Obsessed With It

If you love sleep and hate light, the thick but lightweight Ostrichpillow Eye Mask could be the answer to your woes — at home or away.

The Ostrichpillow Eye Mask was provided to BuzzFeed free of charge but we were not obligated to review it, let alone positively review it.

    Sleep Diva noun /ˈslēp, dēvə/

Definition: Me. (OK, maybe this isn't a term you'd find in the Oxford Dictionary, but boy oh boy is it a term I, and I'm sure a lot of you, can relate to.)

I'll be the first to admit it — I'm a little high maintenance when it comes to my sleep. I need complete darkness and complete quiet. Anyone else? So when I have a feeling I'm going to be staying somewhere that doesn't believe in blackout blinds, or just regular ol' blinds for that matter, I always travel with an eye mask.

The only problem is, I've struggled to find one that A) doesn't move around when I sleep and B) doesn't let the bleeding light shine through.

Enter the Ostrichpillow 100% Blackout Eye Mask — yes, you read that correctly: 1-0-0% b-l-a-c-k-o-u-t. Bet you're scratching your head wondering but how can such a mask exist?

Well, for anyone who doesn't know, Ostrichpillow (aka the sleep gods, to you and I) design cushy, comfy, super-soft products that promote self-care — one notable item being their famous deep-sea-diver-shaped napping pillow. And with that in mind, it's safe to say you're going to get the Rolls-Royce of sleep masks with this, their 3D-ergonomic eye mask that's $45 on Amazon and Ostrichpillow.

It's soft (think: like the lovely, skin-loving jersey fabric of your most snuggle-worthy T-shirt), features six layers of comfort (aka lightweight pillows made just for your peepers), has eye cup coverings (essentially like little dark caves that contour to your face), and comes with an adjustable strap (for the perfect fit for any size noggin).

I mean...would you just look at that softness...and don't even get me started with the bounce of that cushion 🤤.

Now let's get to the good stuff: the eye cups — or as I like to call them, cocoon-like coverings that won't put pressure on my lids. They're designed with enough carved-out space that gives you, get this, enough room to blink(!) *and* because you're getting more square footage than a penthouse suite in there, your delicate eyelashes won't get all smushed or squished.

Seriously, the density is a godsend. This thing has signed, sealed, and delivered on the 100% blackout promise: The pillow-soft ridges feel lightweight yet have been expertly designed to adapt to your face, which allow for complete darkness no matter the time of day.

And traveling with it is a must. When I say it's the first thing I throw in my luggage, I'm not kidding. This thing has saved me on many trips away — especially on ones spent at friends' homes that have floor-to-ceiling windows (case in point in the pic below). I mean *gah*, talk about luxury...but for my sleep, no siree Bob...those walls of broad daylight used to get a big ol' thumbs down from me. Now that I have my trusty mask in tow, though, I can finally say I feel rested when I wake up.

TL;DR lamp light, sunlight, even your S.O.'s phone light wouldn't stand a chance at disturbing your rest with this thing on. And for that, dear readers, it's a 10/10, pure delight, and totally worth the splurge in my books.

But don't just take my word for it, let's see what other fans have to say:

"It works for any sleeping position. I am a side and back sleeper, so my main problem was that other masks often came off during the night. It is very annoying. With this Ostrichpillow mask, I can sleep longer and I would say better. I tighten it and it stays in the same position all night long." —Mike

"I just bought a second because I am traveling a lot these days and I love to sleep as if I were at home in any hotel. I can say this is the most comfortable eye mask I've ever tried." —Eleonora M.

"My experience with this product is that I have been using it for a month already and I wake up better. I simply get used to it and my sleep is deeper. I can't see anything, even with my eyes open, so it keeps my partner's phone light blocked. 5 out of 5." —David

"I suffer from really painful migraines, and this dark eye mask has helped a lot since I got it. Any minimal contact bothers me, so what I like the most is that this product doesn't cause any additional discomfort because it is hardly noticeable." —Anne Nelson

No pain, no light, just pure snooze fest bliss? Yep, I know, this is what dreams are indeed made of. So if you want to give this a go for yourself, you can get it from Amazon or Ostrichpillow for $45 (available in dark and light gray).
