Serial production manager Emily Condon elaborated on Sarah Koenig's comments in an email to BuzzFeed News, saying they don’t have a hard and fast timeline on Season 2, although they hope to premiere this fall, depending on the logistics of reporting out the chosen subject matter. Serial obsessives may be waiting a good, long while for the next installment of This American Life's addictive podcast, as host Sarah Koenig revealed on Jan. 27 that she does not have a crime to investigate in Season 2.
"Like, if any of you has a story, there's an email," she said during a Q&A at Penn State University. "No, I mean ... we do not have a story."
The first season of Serial — which chronicled the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee and the conviction of her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed — became a full-blown cultural obsession following its debut in October 2014.
Thinkpieces were penned, podcasts about the podcast were recorded, parodies were filmed, Reddit became a bottomless rabbithole of conspiracy theories, and everywhere you went people were debating Adnan's guilt.
