Everything You Need To Know About "American Horror Story" Season 6

    1. Season 6 mixes the present with the past.

    FX president John Landgraf said in January 2016 that the sixth season will be “set in the present” with “echoes of the past" at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. “It’s set in two time periods ... but principally in the present,” he added.

    2. Angela Bassett is back!

    Angela Bassett — who starred in AHS: Coven, Freak Show, and Hotel — told Larry King in February that she would be in Season 6.

    3. Lady Gaga will return — eventually.

    Lady Gaga — who made her AHS debut with Hotel, for which she won a Golden Globe — said during a March interview that she would appear in the sixth season, but added, "I can’t promise you how, or when, or anything like that.”

    4. Season 6 will have a new format.

    At the show's PaleyFest panel in March, Murphy said, "We've been working on two ideas at once, which we’ve never done, so I don’t want to say what it is, but … it will have a different form than we’ve ever done."

    He also added that every actor who was onstage — Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Denis O'Hare, Angela Bassett, Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley, Cheyenne Jackson, and Finn Wittrock — was invited to return for Season 6 if they'd like.

    5. Jessica Lange is done with AHS

    When Jessica Lange announced she would be leaving the American Horror Story franchise after Freak Show in 2015, fans held out hope that she could, one day, be convinced to return.

    But in a new interview with Charlie Rose, the Emmy-winner pretty much shut down the conversation that she could, theoretically, return one day. "I had four years with that — four seasons and each year was a marvelous character," she said. "But ... sometimes you come to the end of something."

    The good news is that Lange isn't done with TV and will star in a different anthology series for Ryan Murphy and FX called Feud, where she will play Joan Crawford to Susan Sarandon's Bette Davis.

    6. Cheyenne Jackson will check back in

    Cheyenne Jackson who played Will Drake in AHS: Hotel told Out.com that he will be back for Season 6, which he said is "just different than anything I‘ve ever done" but stopped short of revealing anything else. "Wild horses wouldn’t make me reveal the plot."

    7. The new season will premiere this September

    American Horror Story Season 6 will premiere Sept. 14 at 10 p.m. on FX, the network announced. Additionally the show's official Twitter handle updated its cover photo to this logo, which brings up lots of questions.

    Every year FX releases conceptual teasers for the new AHS season — stylish vignettes that riff on that year's theme. Only this time, we don't know this year's theme, so we're left to decode and deduce what we can from the snippets.

    They feature: a baby playing with a mobile made of knives, a devious doctor-patient relationship, a farm house with an ominous plum of smoke coming from the chimney, basement monsters begging for freedom, a family with glowing eyes wandering towards camera, and a bug crawling across a woman's scalp.

    What does it all mean? Who knows. But some fans have noticed that each teaser evokes something from a previous season: babies have played important roles in Seasons 1 and 5; deadly doctors have recurred in Season 1, 2, and 4; that farm house looks a bit like where Season 4's conjoined twins Dot and Bette were raised; basements were important in Season 1 and 2; there's an alien-esque vibe to the glowing-eyed family that evokes the extra-terrestrials of Season 2; and the pale, blonde lady with an insect on her head looks like she could be related to Lady Gaga's The Countess from Season 5.

    Does that mean anything? Nope! John Landgraff, the CEO of FX Networks and FX Productions, told reporters at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Aug. 9 that all but one of those promos is a misdirect.
