These 17 Paranormal Stories Will Leave You Chilled To The Damn Bone, Like Good Luck Sleeping Tonight

"I worked in funeral homes for 13 years. I was vacuuming up after a visitation for an older widow, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw a man in a suit sitting on a couch near the widow's casket. I looked down to turn the vacuum off and when I looked up to tell the man the visitation was over... there was no man."

It doesn't matter who you are, when the topic of paranormal experiences comes up, you can't help but be curious about people's stories.

Recently, in a thread on r/AskReddit, u/jusstabean asked the community, "What is your paranormal/unexplained experience?" and the answers were delightfully spine-tingling.

Here are some of the best of them.

    1. "I live in a very old log cabin and have had a lot of experiences. Once I was upstairs folding laundry (home alone) when I heard commotion downstairs. All the furniture was shoved to the center of the room. It freaked me out. Also, I took my son's phone from him once and put it on the shelf in the dining room. While telling my wife why I took the phone away, it flew off the shelf and hit me. I was a minimum of six feet away from it. We just looked at each other stunned.

    2. "In second grade, I saw black leather shoes floating in midair in the basement bathroom of my elementary school. I stared as they just floated.

Years later I ran into an old friend and we were reminiscing. She said, 'Remember when Lindsey peed her pants in sixth grade because she said she saw floating shoes in the bathroom? Haha!' I freaked out and grabbed her arm and started yelling, 'I saw them too! I saw them too!' My whole life I doubted what I saw, but Lindsey saw it too!"

    3. "I worked in funeral homes for 13 years. I was vacuuming up after a visitation for an older widow, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw a man in a suit sitting on a couch near the widow's casket. I looked down to turn the vacuum off and when I looked up to tell the man the visitation was over... there was no man. It sent shivers down my spine. 13 years in funeral homes, only that one time did I see something 'other worldly.'"

    4. "My mom died when I was ten. My dad and I were driving home from seeing her at the hospital after he made the decision to unplug, and we had the talk about how she was going to die. I slept in my parent's bed that night, and at exactly 2:01 a.m. the phone rang. I knew what it was: The Call from the hospital. What I found out later is my dad and I both had the exact same dream right before the phone rang.

    5. "When I was 13–14, my best friend lived in an old house on a couple acres of woods, no neighbors. One day we were outside and saw a lady in white floating across his back yard. This was in broad daylight. I stayed over at his place that night and his dog woke me up barking. As I opened my eyes I saw the lady in white leaning over me, looking at me. I freaked out, and woke the whole house up.

    6. "I was doing Pilates in my basement, and I saw a figure come up beside me. I thought if I ignored it, it would go away, but it didn't. I glanced up thinking it was my mom, but no one was there. I lowered my head again and saw the shadow circle around me. I start getting scared. The final straw for me was when I had my leg extended and it grabbed hold of my heel. I swear I never ran up the stairs so fast in my life."

    7. "Me and two friends were hiking in the Olympic Mountains in Washington. We were pretty far out and hadn't seen anyone else for about two hours. We got to the top of this peak and that 'being watched' feeling was almost immediate. We were all telling each other the feeling was just in our heads, but after about 15 minutes we all heard the most blood-curdling scream I've ever heard.

    8. "For years I kept having these experiences while using the computer. I would notice the dates on websites were dated in the future. I would just dismiss it as some accident and move on, but if I left the website it was gone forever. Not in my history and I couldn't find it by Google search. It happened enough times that I started to find it suspicious.

    9. "When I was a kid, I shared a hotel room with my dad and my brother in southern Brazil. In the middle of the night I woke up to some voices having a conversation, and they were clearly in our room. I couldn't understand anything they were saying, but it sounded a lot like Portuguese (which is my first language), but the words were...weird.

    10. "I was kicking it in bed with my girl and she looked at me confused, asking if my cousin stayed home from work. Before I could answer, I heard music getting increasingly louder from the other room. When I got to the room the volume started to fade and the lights above flickered. Creepiest part was the STEREO WAS UNPLUGGED THE WHOLE TIME."

    11. "Several years ago my husband and I were out behind our house watching the ducks in our pond. I decided to run up to the house to get my binoculars, which were upstairs. But as I entered through the basement, I could hear my long-deceased father’s voice saying, “Get the ones from my filing cabinet, Megs.” I looked to my right to where his filing cabinet has been since his passing. The binoculars were in the second drawer. He was a bird lover too. It was so weird. He even used my childhood nickname. Can’t explain it, but it was comforting."

    12. "While working at a funeral home, a widow came to us saying, 'My husband has been visiting me in my dreams, telling me he’s underwater.' We told her, 'Your husband is buried at the top of a hill. The burial vault is guaranteed not to let water in, and the casket is steel and sealed with a large rubber gasket.' She said, 'I want you to exhume his casket and check, I’ll pay whatever the cost.' The backhoe dug down to the top of the burial vault, and the driver tried to lift it but couldn’t.

    13. "An ex and I were looking at a townhouse and the manager let us look inside while he stayed in his office to get paperwork ready for us. We went to check out the bedrooms upstairs, but as we were walking up, a gust of freezing cold air swooped down. I turned around and looked at my ex like, 'What the f*ck was that?'

    14. "When I was 6 years old my grandma passed away. Her house went up for sale and my dad had to go to the house to turn off the gas supply. He took me to the house with him and told me to wait by the door. So I just waited, looking up the stairs where I could see the door to the rear bedroom. It swung open and out comes a bright figure. Humanoid in shape and glowing, but it didn’t have any features. It looked like a glowing store mannequin. I completely freaked out and ran to my dad. I didn’t say anything, but as we went out the front door I looked up and the door was closed again."

    15. "Once I saw my dead dog running around in circles at the end of our cul-de-sac. I heard sounds from outside and opened the front screen door to peek outside, and there he was circling around. I watched him, but when I walked off the steps to go to him, he literally faded away into thin air."

    16. "I had a ghost in my bedroom when I was a teenager. The ghost's breathing would wake me up and creep me out, so I'd stay up playing guitar until it stopped. My younger brother slept in my bed one night and we both woke up and listened to it come from the end of the bed. My mum didn't believe me until I was in my 20s and moved out. One day she called me and said that the breathing came into her room, woke her up, and freaked her out."

    17. "One night, my mom and I were in our computer room with our dog. The room became noticeably colder and our dog looked up at the ceiling and started to growl. My mom and I turned to each other when the file drawer in the desk came ROCKETING out and landed on the floor roughly five feet away.
