Nothing is more innocent than a child tuning into the infamous Disney Channel to watch a show. Disney, the home of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, any parent would be proud to pass the legacy to their children…or would they? It seems that some of the biggest child stars that were born from Disney have some type of jinx when they grow up. The pattern has evidently unfolded and it is too obvious to ignore.
Fergie, from the Black Eyed Peas is a Disney kid. In 1984 she joined the cast of Kids Incorporated, where she first showed off her singing voice. Later, the Disney Channel bought the show where Stacy Ann Ferguson stayed with the show for six seasons. Then she grew up and said that she started doing drugs when she was a teenager. Fergie confessed, "I got into a scene. I started going out and taking ecstasy. From ecstasy it went to crystal meth. With any drugs, everything is great at the beginning, and then slowly your life starts to spiral down. [I was] 90 pounds at one point."
Christina Aguilera was also a Disney kid. In fact, she was one of the success stories from the Mickey Mouse Club. Aguilera went to an open audition for The Mickey Mouse Club. She didn't make the cut, but two years later Disney invited her back. When Christina grew up she developed an alcohol problem and after her divorce she was found passed out drunk at a party she wasn't even invited to, picking fights at the Golden Globes, and messing up the lyrics to the National Anthem at the Super Bowl.
Demi Lovato started her career as a Disney kid in 2007. She starred in Disney's show called As the Bell Rings, and then she landed the starring role of the movie Camp Rock. In 2009, she got the lead in the series Sonny with a Chance, another Disney Channel show. When Demi grew up she became bulimic, a self-mutilator, and a drug addict. Diagnosed with bi polar disorder, Demi completed a stint in rehab in 2010 and has been in recovery since.
Lindsey Lohan made her motion picture debut in Disney's remake of The Parent Trap. Her next motion picture, Disney's remake of Freaky Friday and both were smash successes. Her Disney and post Disney career was phenomenal and then Lindsey grew up. She has a rap sheet a mile long which is very well known, which includes jail, drugs, alcohol, money troubles, and multiple attempts at rehab, one of which she just completed.
Britney Spears was a cute little mouseketeer on the Disney Channel. Her successes started early and there were many but then Britney grew up and started getting in drugs and alcohol followed by a very public divorce and then a mental meltdown, which also included a nasty custody battle of her children. She is once again shining after an unexpected and successful comeback.
Zac Efron is the latest to join the ranks of Disney kids gone bad. Zac began acting in the early 2000s, and became known to young audiences after his roles in the Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical, the WB series Summerland, and the film version of the Broadway musical Hairspray. In 2006, Newsweek called him "arguably the biggest teen star in America right now." Then Zac grew up and developed a problem with cocaine. While it wasn't highly publicized, he just completed a stint in rehab a few months ago and says he is better and doing fine now.
While it can be hard to imagine these once adorable little kids growing up with plenty of money and all the glitz and glamor one could desire, turning to a life of drugs, but they do. Just another reminder that everyone is just human and addiction is not preferential to who it consumes.
