Two British Climbers Survived A Terrifying Grizzly Attack In Alberta

Warning: Graphic photos of a bear-bitten leg to follow.

Two British mountain climbers who were climbing in Alberta have shared the terrifying details of their encounter with a grizzly bear. They barely escaped alive.

Greg Boswell and Nick Bullock were trying a route on Mount Wilson in Banff National Park when, after a long day of climbing, they ran into trouble at the edge of the tree line.

"Bear, aaaaaaargh," Boswell screamed, according to Bullock's description of the encounter on his blog.

"I spun to watch Greg sprint past me and in hot pursuit was a Grizzly."

After the pair got to the hospital in Banff, Boswell shared these photos on Facebook showing the gruesome damage done to his leg. (Warning: These pics are pretty gruesome.)

"I got attacked by a Grizzly bear last night and lived to tell the tale, and to make the 3 hour descent and 2 hour drive to the hospital. All stitched up now and on the mend," he wrote.

BuzzFeed Canada has reached out to the climbers for comment, although Boswell and Bullock have so far refused to give any interviews other than to mountaineering news outlets.

Well, that was an interesting 23 hour day!
