This Genius Put Tracks And Skis On A Smart Car And Now It's A Snowmobile

    Too bad it's not street legal.

    An Ottawa-area mechanic turned a Smart car into a snowmobile that not only rips through the snow but also keeps passengers nice and toasty inside.

    A photo of this marvellous creation was uploaded to Reddit earlier this week, but the Ottawa Citizen managed to track down the man who actually built it.

    “It’s just a fitting thing for this kind of car,” Tod Anderson, a mechanic in Manotick, told the newspaper. “The car is just kind of made for [snowmobile conversion], being rear-engine and rear-wheel drive. I just had to try it out.”

    Anderson said the tracks came from an ATV, and the skis replacing the car's front wheels were custom-made. The Smart-mobile can reach speeds of 65 kilometres per hour. The only problem is that it's not really street legal, so Anderson can only take it off-roading.
