Petrol Prices Have Hit A Record-Breaking $3 Per Litre In Australia And Like, What Is Happening To The World

"It'll cost me $98 for a full tank, [compared to] peak-COVID, when a full tank was just $40."

Australians were warned that local petrol prices would be on the rise after global costs for crude oil skyrocketed due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

While prices have been steadily increasing for awhile, photos posted by Australians show fuel pricing listed at a record-breaking $3 per litre (that amounts to $USD2.19) at service stations today in Adelaide.

Others reported seeing fuel prices as high as $2.44 per litre in other parts of the country.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the price of crude oil, the natural resource by which transport fuels like petrol are made from, "has smashed the $US100-a-barrel mark to peak at $US139 earlier this week, the highest level since 2008."

Amid fuel suppliers and oil refiners around the world, including those in Australia, already shunning Russian crude oil, the United States and United Kingdom announced that they would ban the importation of all Russian oil.

Aussies are understandably alarmed at the record-breaking cost of fuel, with many worried about how this increase will add to the strain of household budgets.
