It's a misconception that Bella is boring. She goes through a lot of scary shit and still manages to come out on the other side with exactly what she wants. She's actually pretty well adjusted considering all she's been through.

Edward does not try to take advantage of Bella, despite the obvious power imbalance. Edward might border on creepy at times, but ultimately he and Bella do a great job of setting up boundaries in their relationship.
