Population growth isn't the issue we need to focus on; it's increasing use of resources and greenhouse gas emissions that will negatively impact the planet.

The population growth rate has actually been in a steady decline since the '60s

The world's population grows exponentially and will soon be too much for the planet.

Even though it goes against what you might think, it can be less sustainable to eat certain crops when they're locally grown. For example, apple juice made in Germany takes more energy than Brazilian apple juice that is transported to Germany.

Different climates and soil types are better for different crops

In order to eat sustainably, you should eat locally-grown crops whenever possible.

When all of that food is produced, over 3.3 billion tons of CO2 is released. Eat the food you buy, or just buy less food!

Over a third of food produced around the world is never eaten

You can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by wasting less food.

Nelson chose the date because he wanted to focus it around students, and April 22 was exactly between Spring Break and final exams.
