What Should I Expect At Preview?

This Illinois State University tradition is a two-day summer orientation program required for all incoming freshmen. But what should you expect?

So is it just a campus tour?

It's much, much more! Preview helps newly admitted Redbirds transition into college life at Illinois State. You will get to meet new people, get an overnight campus experience, register for classes, get your Redbird ID card, and so much more!

So if Preview is overnight, where do we stay?

Students are encouraged to stay overnight in the residence halls during Preview. You will be roomed with another incoming freshman and it’s a great way to meet new people before the fall semester begins! Parents are encouraged to check out local hotels near campus for their overnight accommodations.

Do my parents have to come?

No, parents are not required to attend but are welcome to join us for the two-day program. We have sessions created just for parents and guests to help with their transition of joining the Redbird Family. We know that every family is different, so chose what works best for you!

Do I need to complete the ALEKS placement before I sign up for Preview?

No, you can schedule your Preview date whenever you are ready to! Just make sure you have completed at least one ALEKS assessment before you arrive at Preview on your scheduled date. You can register to take the ALEKS here and it can be completed right from your home! No appointments required.

    What else should I know?

You can find a packing list, the Preview schedule and so much more to get you prepared for your summer orientation days here!
