Hi, my name is Rachel Poland, and I will be your #RedbirdLifeGuide this week! I am studying abroad for a month in Italy. The classes I'm taking are Italian Language & Culture, and Religion & Authority in Ancient & Medieval Italy! My "home" for the program is in Orvieto, and I will be visiting Siena, Florence, Assisi, and Rome. I'm excited to get to experience Italy with this amazing group! - RP

The city of Orvieto is so beautiful with this picturesque countryside. Swipe right to see the cute, little apartment I'll be staying in. My two roommates and I are having such a great time! - RP

FOOD! Italian food is amazing, both at restaurants and in my apartment. I have enjoyed the opportunity to cook food. It's definitely interesting when there is no microwave! - RP

When traveling to other cities in Italy, we either take a bus or a train. It's been an interesting experience trying to figure out the train when everything is in Italian! - RP

Of course, one aspect of studying abroad is studying! A really cool part of the experience is that we not only learn in the classroom, but we also get to see the things/buildings discussed in class (like Donatello's David!) in person! - RP

My study abroad program has allowed me to see so many famous pieces of art. I never imagined I would effete be in the same room as such beautiful artwork! - RP

Even though studying is the main reason I am here, I also get to explore on my own. A small group of us went to Venice for two days, and I might go to some other places in the next couple weeks. This opportunity allows me to see so many amazing places! - RP

When you study abroad, you get immersed in the culture. In Italy, that means taking a cooking class and making pasta from scratch! Swipe to see the finished product! 🍝 I also plan to attend several festivals while I am here to learn so much more about Italy. - RP
