Last summer was one of my favorite time out with my wife. We traveled to Costa Rica and enjoyed the warm blue ocean and stunning tropical paradise. The experience was incredible, and it allowed me to connect with the natural world and at the end of the trip, I was revitalized and inspired. Now, not everyone is opportune to enjoy their summer like I did but that does not mean it has to remain that way. There are some tricks and tips on how to enjoy that long and well-deserved vacation without breaking the bank or wishing you had stayed home. Here are my thoughts.

The best way to enjoy life is to learn new things and no better way to learn new stuff than going on an adventure. Now that I have hit my mid-50s with no mortgage or college fees to pay I am always looking for the best way and place to enjoy my retirement. I was in Cuba a few months ago and as the day passed amazing things happened. My wife and I surfed for the first time. I felt bold and alive! I know you are already wondering how I get to know these places and afford my trips. It is very simple. I follow several adventures on line, on the social media and read product and service reviews. They usually give the best adventure travel advice. You can see the world through their eye and it helps to choose the best places to visit in the world.

Money is not the answer to great adventure travel so don’t get depressed. You don’t need to wait for your retirement package before you travel the world, start planning for one right now! Although my first adventure took longer than usual, and this could be ascribed to ignorance as I didn’t know how to go about it. The best way to approach this is to identify your destination and then work out the cost. Spread the cost over a 10-month period so that you don’t put a strain on yourself. Better still save the money in a place where you can only have access to it a month before the trip. That will prevent you from diverting the money into something else. Do not visit a place twice. It is called an adventure, not a reunion. Each adventure must begin with an insatiable curiosity and end with a lasting memory. Every place I have visited in the last 3 years has been memorable and inspiring. Sometimes it is hard to find the next best place, that is why following an adventurer comes handy. By keeping your travel destination different you create room for bonding and new experiences.

4. Don’t go alone

Adventure travel is not for one person and if you are planning to go alone because of the cost you might be shooting yourself in the foot. Even the most frugal travelers can find a trip that falls within their budget, so don’t go by yourself. It’s a moment that is meant to be shared. Can you imagine you alone skiing, snowmobiling, horseback riding or just relaxing at the spa? That is boring to me. However, if you decide to go alone ensure you make friends and enjoy the moment with someone. Just in case that does not work out, ensure you have booked in advance to experience the tasting menu that will be offered at your destination. At least that is also memorable.
