Which Latin American Country Are You?

You got: Gran Colombia

You are Gran Colombia! Made of modern day Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador, you were first colonized by Simon Bolivar, a Creole officer who led the revolt against Spain. You are firmly committed to independence and republican government, but your political differences and regional interests will soon lead to your demise. Tread lightly.

You got: The Caribbean Islands

You are the Caribbean Islands! A Spanish colony, you feared slave rebellion, leading to a lasting loyalty to Spain until the late19th century. Eventually, you broke into modern day Puerto Rico and Cuba. It took you longer to reach a place of political stability, but it will be lasting!

You got: Haiti

You are Haiti! Colonized by the Spanish, you had a very large slave population. In 1804, a rebellion under Toussaint L'Overture lead to the creation of the Independent Republic of Haiti (this was the only successful slave rebellion in history). Many Latin American elites feared having the same fate as your country. Good on you.

You got: Mexico

You are Mexico! You were born as a monarchy under Augustin de Iturbide. In 1808 when France invaded Spain, Spain was left without a clear ruler. You saw this as your opportunity to join forces with Mestizos and Creoles to gain your independence. You finally succeed in September of 1821 to create the Monarchy of Mexico. Woo!

You got: Brazil

You are Brazil! You've got an interesting history. In 1807, France invaded Portugal, leaving the royal family afraid. They fled to the colony of Brazil where they lived until 1820. When it was decided that they would return to Portugal, they left their eldest son Dom Pedro I to rule you with the instruction to lead a rebellion. He did just that, and here you are! He gained independence for you in 1822. Not much changed, but like, congrats anyway?
