The 10 Most Hardcore Celebrity Rivalries

Since they're under such intense scrutiny all the time, you'd think celebrities would recognize their similarities and be nicer to each other. But instead of bonding over the hassles of being famous, they usually spend their time criticizing and betraying everyone. Check out some of the bitterest feuds in recent Hollywood history, and don't forget that the Hatfields and McCoys feud begins on Memorial Day, at 9/8c on HISTORY.

1. Heather Locklear And Denise Richards

After Heather Locklear’s marriage to Richie Sambora ended in February of 2006, and it wasn’t long before her best friend, Denise Richards, scooped Sambora up for herself. Locklear has since given Sambora and Richards her blessing, but the two women aren't exactly gal pals anymore.

2. Jay Leno And Conan O'Brien

When "The Jay Leno Show" wasn't getting good ratings in the 10pm time slot in September of 2009, NBC executives wanted to push it back to 11:35pm. But Conan did not like how that would mean “The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien “would start 30 minutes later (at 12:05am instead of at 11:35pm). NBC decided to make the change anyway, and Conan resigned in January of 2010. And even though they’re not on the same network anymore, they’re probably still having carrier pigeons messaging insults back to each other.

3. Naomi Campbell And Tyra Banks

On her talk show in November of 2005, Banks sat Campbell down and explained why she believed they became rivals instead of friends. Banks said, "Back then there were 10 top models ... but there was an unwritten rule that only one of them could be black, and Naomi was that one black girl. I was tired of having to deal with you ... I was tired of constantly hearing that I got canceled from this job or that, or hearing that this photographer was called, or that magazine was called and (told) not to use me." They have since made up, and Naomi now directs the majority of her aggression towards her personal staff.

4. Donald Trump And Rosie O'Donnell

In December of 2006, Rosie O’Donnell criticized Donald Trump for giving Miss USA Tara Conner (who tested positive for the use of cocaine, heroin and crystal meth) back her crown during a press conference, and for using the scandal to promote his image and the pageant. Trump launched a giant attack in the media against O’Donnell, and claimed he was going to sue her for slander, that her wife Kelli was going to leave her, and that Barbara Walters regretted giving her a spot on “The View.” They have remained in their respective corners ever since.

5. Eminem and Mariah Carey

Eminem's 2009 song, "Bagpipes From Baghdad," had a part where he asked Mariah Carey why they broke up. Later that year, Mariah's "Obsessed" song accused Eminem of having drug problems and of being obsessed with her. Then, Eminem released "The Warning," where he told Mariah he left her because she denied they were ever together. He also said if Mariah kept talking badly about him, he would reveal their personal pictures and private phone messages to prove their relationship to the public. They are still on pretty thin ice with each other.

6. Alyssa Milano And Shannen Doherty

While filming the third season of “Charmed” in 2000, Doherty suddenly stopped speaking to her castmates. Milano was so uncomfortable on set that she apparently told producers that she was going to quit if Doherty wasn’t fired. Eventually, Doherty found out about Milano’s demand, and decided it would be better for her if she left before she could be dismissed. To this day, they do not speak of each other.

7. Glenn Beck And Jon Stewart

Jon Stewart and Glenn Beck have been feuding for years, and there’s really no end in sight. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly when it all started, since their political views and beliefs have always been so fundamentally different. But in the past few years, their attacks on each other have morphed from discourse into a new breed of comedy … which means (regardless of whom you side with) we pray every night for their rivalry to live on.

8. Tom Cruise And Brooke Shields

In May of 2005, Tom Cruise attacked Shields and said she should not have taken antidepressants for her postpartum depression because it is only cured through vitamins and exercise. In July, Shields wrote an op-ed piece in The New York Times and said, "To suggest that I was wrong to take drugs to deal with my depression, and that instead I should have taken vitamins and exercised shows an utter lack of understanding about postpartum depression and childbirth in general.” But in 2007, Cruise reportedly apologized to Shields, and she accepted because she said it was “heartfelt.”

9. Elton John And George Michael

This full-blown feud began in 2004 when Elton publicly said George had a “deep-rooted unhappiness in his life,” and was smoking too much marijuana. Michael retaliated by telling a magazine that Elton relied on his old hits to make money, whereas his “passion and drive [was] still about the future.” They continued fighting for years, but after George was arrested in London in August of 2010 for “driving while unfit through drink or drugs,” he announced he just wanted to “start again,” and now the musicians see each other regularly.

10. Jennifer Aniston And Angelina Jolie

In December of 2006, Angelina Jolie hinted to Vogue that she and Brad Pitt became a couple while Brad was still legally married to Jennifer Aniston. And in the December 2008 issue of Vogue, Jennifer expressed said, “There was stuff printed (in 2006) that was definitely from a time when I was unaware that it was happening. I felt those details were a little inappropriate to discuss. That stuff about how she couldn’t wait to get to work every day? That was really uncool.” Jen has never publicly blamed Angelina for her failed marriage, but it seems she chooses to get back at Angelina by remaining friendly with Brad and his parents.
