The Evils Of Umbridge

Why she is as bad as Voldemort, and why we all hate her.

Just as bad as Voldemort she is. “Besides the world isn’t split into good people and Death Eaters. We’ve all got both light and dark inside of us. What matters is the part we choose to act on.” – Sirius Black. Sorry Snuffles, going to have to disagree with you there. Umbridge is a Death Eater, practically. In her early life, her mother, Ellen Cracknell, was a Muggle, and her sibling was a Squib. Under her father's infulence, she looked down upon them both, believing herself superior. By the time Dolores was fifteen, her mother and brother returned to the Muggle world.. After being sorted into Slytherin, no surprise, she despised her time at school. Anybody wonder why? Well, if you didn't guess, little Dolores had no power, under which she thrives. As she didn't become a prefect, thank you headmaster, she was completely powerless, therefore was miserable. Slughorn was head of Slytherin then, but they never got along, and Slughorn apparently though her an idiotic woman, and never liked her. At least Slughorn got some of his priorities right!

When Umbridge graduated she rose to the Ministry of Magic, taking office in The Improper Use of Magic Office, and by thirty had become the head. Under that sickeningly sweet attitude, her ruthlessness thrived, as she flattered equals and superiors, and flattened those below her, often stealing their work. Umbridge, power hungry, was ashamed of her father, who was a lowly worker in The Department of Magical Maintenance. Due to his daughter's pressure, he retire early, and received a monthly allowance from Umbridge for quietly leaving the public. Soon enough she rose higher still, and became Senior Undersecretary to the Minister of Magic, and a member of Wizengamot.

As we all know, she ordered th dementors, years later on Harry Potter, thinking it a win win. He would either be subjected to the dementors kiss, or he would have to perform a Patronus Charm, then be expelled for underage magic. Sadly, for Dolores Jane Umbridge at least, Harry managed to get out, due to the fairness of Amelia Bones and most of Wizengamot. But she was soon appointed Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts, forced on them by Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic. Soon after, she became the first "Hogwarts High Inquisitator" giving her most supreme power, rivaling Dumbledore. She even injured Hedwig, and innocent owl! After D.A., of Dumbledore's Army, was discovered, and Dumbledore was fired, Umbridge became headmaster, giving her complete and total power. Luckily, order was restored, and Umbridge returned to the abashed Ministry after Voldemort was finally accepted to be returned. Now we get into the interesting part. After the Second Wizarding War began, and Voldemort took over the Ministry, Umbridge thrived, writing twisted laws, trying innocent Muggle-borns for stealing magic. She was happy, and this proves the was practically a Death Eater. She was just missing the Mark. Rejoicing at the discrimination and abuse of Muggle-born witches and wizards, she would fit right in with Voldemort's inner circle. Thankfully, when Harry defeated Voldemort, Umbridge was sentenced to a lifetime in Azkaban because of this. You get what you deserve, don't you?
