The Killer Boy Band Parody You Didn't Know You Needed

"Ain't nothing but a dream state."

What’s one thing that can unite the world’s iconic horror movie villains?

A quirky boy band parody, apparently.

Set to the familiar tune of “I Want It That Way” by The Backstreet Boys, “I’ll Kill You That Way” puts a darker spin on the ‘90s pop song.

The parody features Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Ghosface from “Scream” and Leatherface from “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”. The group calls themselves The Slashstreet Boys.

The video begins with Freddy Krueger playing the guitar next to a Camp Crystal Lake sign from the “Friday the 13th” series. Jason Voorhees then kicks off the song’s lyrics with, “I’ll set you on fire with gas and a lighter. You’ll scream when I say, I’ll kill you that way.”

The original song’s chorus, “Tell me why, ain’t nothing but a heartache,” is transformed into, “When you die, ain’t nothing but a dream state,” in reference to Freddy Krueger’s ability to kill his victims in their dreams.

A few scenes in the video show enthusiastic horror fans surrounding The Slashstreet Boys’ vehicle, holding signs that read “Sleep with me Freddy” and “Jason, I hate water too.”

The video also showcases the deadly quintet on a beach, in clothes reminiscent of The Backstreet Boys’ original video.

The Slashstreet Boys are a product of two YouTube channels: The Merkins and Taco Truck.

Released Friday, Oct. 19, “I’ll Kill You That Way” already has 6.5 million views, making it the most viewed video on The Merkins’ channel.

This is the second song The Slashstreet boys have released. The first song, “Slashing Bodies,” is a parody of The Backstreet Boys’ “Everybody.” It was released in October 2017 and is the second most popular video on The Merkins’ channel with nearly 4.3 million views.

Following the success of the first song, Jake Barcus, who portrays Leatherface in the videos, started a Kickstarter campaign for the “I’ll Kill You That Way” project in July. The campaign reached its $4,000 goal on Aug. 2, with 20 backers.

Now, with two successful singles and their viral fame growing by the day, the question is whether we’ll see a Slashstreet Boys album next.
