As Someone Who Hates Germs, I Want To Know How You Stop Them From Spreading

For starters: cover your freakin' mouth when you cough (@ my husband).

With the recent outbreak of COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus, it's more important than ever that we all do our part in preventing the spread of germs.

All that being said, I want to know what's your favorite way to keep germs at bay?

It can be as easy as washing your hands! The CDC has an easy-to-follow instructional video with tips on how to get your hands as clean as possible.

Handwashing is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of germs. What you need to know about handwashing: https://t.co/UyYggQjM9T

I've also come across many great memes with song suggestions to wash your hands to. You can sing "Happy Birthday" twice to get to the appropriate hand-washing time or start singing My Chemical Romance's "Welcome To The Black Parade" from "When I was" to "the beaten and the damned." Whatever works for you ;).

Or you can splurge on a PhoneSoap UV sanitizer to toss your phone into for a quick 10 minutes after you get home to get rid of the grime that's surely found its way onto your screen.

Maybe your tip is as general as staying home. Honestly, if you have a tickle in your throat or the sniffles you should get some rest and stop yourself from potentially exposing anyone else to your germs.

To protect yourself from #COVID19, avoid being exposed to the virus and use everyday prevention action to prevent the spread of respiratory virus: 1) cover your cough 2) wash your hands 3) stay home when sick https://t.co/uArGZTJhXj

If your lifestyle permits definitely stay home. You've probably got hours of Love Is Blind to catch up on anyways — do everyone a favor and keep your germs with you in your house.

In the hope that we may help others (and ourselves) stay healthier during this situation, I want to know — how do you personally prevent the spread of germs? Tell us in the comments below for the chance to be featured in an upcoming BuzzFeed Community post.
