Who is your idol/musical influence in life?

Which one of these would you buy if you went shopping?

Well, you may not be 'Ye himself, but you sure act just like him. Kanye's father was one of the first black photojournalists, and his mother a professor of English at universities, so we know where his expressiveness came from. He grew up in middle class Chicago, which means he wasn't "hood" at all. Because of this, West's lyrics and interviews focus more on his superstar lifestyle, random thoughts, and his status as one of this generation's best. Deservedly so however, since the man has won 21 grammys. West's ventures with his Yeezy line prove that he does have taste for fashion, and on Twitter he's not afraid to be vocal about this. Kanye has done many controversial things throughout his life. In 2002, he fell asleep on the wheel and got into an accident. Two weeks later, he made a song about it, talking about how quickly God can take away your career in the blink of the eye. He married Kim Kardashian. He talks about his future plans to run for president. Such things are what will forever make us love Kanye West.

DAMN. That was our reaction after listening to the album, wasn't it? Kendrick is widely considered to be a lyrical genius when it comes to rapping. His brutally honest takes about racism, growing up in the hood of Compton, and contemporary issues make up his message. An example of this would be on his song Maad City, where Kendrick talks about how as a kid he suspected his gang member friend of killing someone, and ever since then never looked at him the same way again. Deep stuff. As mentioned, Lamar likes to combine rap with his personal experiences, but he also likes to voice his opinions on contemporary issues, such as racism, police brutality and black lives matter. On social media, Kendrick tends to keep to himself, posting stuff like tour dates only, which is a testament to who we know him to be. Never change, Kendrick.

What were the chances? Chance The Rapper has proven time and time again that he is the role model rapper. Like his mentor Kanye, Chance grew up in middle class Chicago, and thus can't really identify as a hood rapper. Chance until this day remains really close to his parents, especially his father, who was a role model to him since he actually worked for Barack Obama. Before he was a rapper however, Chance struggled mightily, first getting caught in high school with marijuana then eventually dropping out of college. It was his father who pulled him together, and supported him in his quest to be a musician. He hasn't looked back since. Aside from lyrics, Chance constantly makes headlines by using twitter to voice his thoughts on the bad things he observes, like Chicago's government. In a world filled with Donald Trumps, we really need more guys like Chance The Rapper.

Who better than the queen of rap, amirite? Nicki Minaj is universally known to be the greatest female rapper of all time, and she herself is an example that girls can be as good as guys. Her rapping career has been built on being sassy, unafraid and fearless, and this is seen in the numerous diss tracks Minaj has released towards her rival Remy Ma recently. In an interview with The View, Minaj stated that growing up, she always yearned for a stricter and more disciplined household. She also had to struggle with her abusive father who was often high on drugs. This was what contributed to her being extremely outspoken and fearlessly determined to make it in life, no matter what stood in her way. Nicki's obsession with Barbie stems from her childhood, during the dawn of MySpace and social media, wherein she thought that Barbie would be a cool alter ego to fiddle with. In today's culture of feminism and expressiveness, Minaj is unafraid to use her socials to post provocative pictures of herself and her fabulous life. All Hail the Queen!
