Oscars So Wrong

Last week's Oscars mess up and how it shows how there still is racism in society.

The controversy last year during the Oscars was its lack of melanin or lack of support and recognition for the artistry provided by the African American community. This year the academy diversified its winners slightly and shined a light on people who have gone unrecognized for so long.

Mahershala Ali started the night by taking Best Supporting Actor in Moonlight and Viola Davis gave an emotional speech for her win for Best Supporting Actress in Fences. She described her upbringing with tears in her eyes and inspired many other like her to go for your dreams.

The bombshell of the night came when Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway were given the wrong card and ended up reciting the winners of Best Picture as LaLa Land when in actuality it was Moonlight. Lately, there has been much racial controversy in the United States. With the racial Oscar issues last year and the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite, is it possible that this whole situation was intentional to rob an African American film based on homosexuality and drug abuse of its moment, shine and glory.

The cast and crew of Moonlight will never fully get their moment regardless of their winnings and for years to come when the topic of the 89th Oscars come about it will not be based on the Best Picture winners but solely about the mess created.
