Women, Tell Us The First Time You Remember Experiencing Sexism

When's the first time you realized being a woman meant you were treated differently?

We've all experienced sexism in some shape or form.

For women, it's usually pretty explicit, and starts at a young age.

Of course, every woman's experience with sexism is different, and is there is no "normal" experience. But I know many women can relate to getting inappropriate comments from older relatives on their appearance even as a kid.

Or getting cat-called on the street as a preteen.

Some girls experience sexism in elementary or middle school, like being discouraged from STEM classes and extracurriculars or certain sports.

A lot of girls experience sexism at home or even in small comments that reinforce the idea that girls should mold their personality and actions around boys.

When's the first time you can remember experiencing sexism? What happened, and how did that shape you? Let us know in the comments, and you could be featured in an upcoming BuzzFeed Community article!
