14 Celeb Weddings That Were Super Low-Key, And 13 Celeb Weddings That Were Wildly Extravagant

Oh, to have millions to spend on a wedding...

Celebs pretty much all have a ton of money — and one of the biggest things basically anyone can spend money on is a wedding.

To that end, I decided to compile all the most lavish celeb weddings I could find — and also all the celeb weddings that literally happened at courthouses or at home. Here are the most and least lavish celeb weddings!

1. Low-Key: Beyoncé and Jay-Z

The two were married in 2008 surrounded by only 40 guests, then had a reception at Jay-Z's Tribeca apartment in New York City. It was an intensely private affair, and only a few photos and videos have been released. Beyoncé's mother, Tina Knowles, actually made her wedding dress. 

2. Lavish: Kim Kardashian and Kanye

Between Kim's Givenchy dress, the location in Florence, Italy, and the rehearsal dinner at the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles, Kanye and Kim's wedding has got to be one of the most lavish of all time. The wedding itself reportedly cost $2.8 million, with the entire ordeal (including hotels and private jets) costing as much as $12 million. Kim's dress alone reportedly cost half a million. There were 200 guests at the event, where opera singer Andrea Bocelli performed. 

3. Low-Key: Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner

While they did end up hosting a more lavish ceremony in France later that year, Sophie and Joe first officially got married in Vegas after the 2019 Billboard Music Awards at A Little White Wedding Chapel. The two exchanged ring pops instead of traditional rings, while Diplo livestreamed the whole thing. An Elvis impersonator served as their officiant. 

4. Lavish: Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian

The wedding, which aired as a special on E!, reportedly cost $10 million. They were married in Montecito, California, with almost 450 guests, who were served a four-course meal prepared by Wolfgang Puck. Earth, Wind & Fire and Robin Thicke performed. Kim wore a Vera Wang ball gown (though she ultimately ended up wearing three different gowns at the event).

Chris and Miley secretly got married at the house in Tennessee, with only a few people present, later posting a few intimate photos of the event.

6. Lavish: Ciara and Russell Wilson

The two wed at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire, England, with Ciara in a Roberto Cavalli gown that was designed specifically for her. They actually ended up not being able to use the castle's chapel for the wedding because Ciara's dress was too long. They had 110 guests, including celebs like Kelly Rowland.

7. Low-Key: Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio

The two were married last minute at City Hall in San Francisco, using Joe's baseball-related trip to Japan as their honeymoon. Fans and photographers gathered outside as soon as they learned about the ceremony and caught Joe and Marilyn walking out as husband and wife.

8. Lavish: Yvette Prieto and Michael Jordan

The wedding, which is rumored to have cost $10 million, took place at the Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea, where Donald Trump had also married Melania. The Palm Beach, Florida, reception featured a performance by Robin Thicke and Usher. The wedding tent was apparently the largest tent used in wedding history and was reportedly even bigger than Michael's house.

9. Low-Key: Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz

It was so low-key, we don't even have a photo of it! The wedding only had four guests — two being their children, and the other two being family friends. They were married in a private ceremony in New York.

10. Lavish: Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas

Around 200 guests attended the lavish festivities in India, with multiple ceremonies (both Christian and Indian), along with three wedding receptions and multiple dresses for Priyanka, two of which took thousands of hours to embroider and create. Their wedding venue was the Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur. 

11. Low-Key: Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa

The two eloped last minute in Las Vegas in 1996, with Kelly wearing a $199 dress from a Barneys Warehouse sale after Mark suggested over pizza and wine that they get married.

12. Lavish: David and Victoria Beckham

The two were married at Luttrellstown Castle in Dublin. Victoria wore Vera Wang, though she later changed into a purple gown and an 18-karat-gold crown. They sat on thrones at the reception and had their very own flag raised above the castle. They also released doves.

13. Low-Key: Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin

The two secretly wed in Santa Barbara, California — just days after announcing Gwyneth was pregnant. They got their marriage license from the Santa Barbara County Courthouse and had no family members attend.

14. Lavish: Prince William and Kate Middleton

Kate wore a custom Alexander McQueen dress and a Cartier tiara, and a second Alexander McQueen dress for the evening festivities at Clarence House. The two were married at Westminster Abbey, then proceeded to Buckingham Palace. Over 2,000 guests were in attendance, including other royals and celebrities such as Elton John. With security costs, the entire wedding reportedly cost $34 million.

15. Low-Key: Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady

The two were married at a church in Santa Monica in 2009, with a small private barbecue at their house serving as a reception. The wedding took only 10 days to plan.

16. Lavish: Madonna and Guy Ritchie

The two were married in an extremely private ceremony at Skibo Castle in Scotland. Gwyneth Paltrow served as Madonna's maid of honor, and the bride wore a Stella McCartney dress. The wedding reportedly cost £1.5 million, and they apparently rented out every room in the castle.

17. Low-Key: Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell

The two were married in 2013 at the Beverly Hills Courthouse, with the entire thing — including gas — costing $142.

18. Lavish: Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake

The two were married in 2012 at the Borgo Egnazia resort in Southern Italy in an event that reportedly cost $6.5 million. There were around 100 guests — they arrived first at Frankfurt and then were surprised with a trip to Italy for the ceremony and days of festivities. Jessica wore a pink custom-made Giambattista Valli haute couture gown, while Justin wore a custom Tom Ford tuxedo. He serenaded Jessica as she walked down the aisle with a song he'd written just for her.

19. Low-Key: Lily Allen and David Harbour

The two were married at a Vegas chapel last year, one day after obtaining a marriage license. As with Sophie and Joe, their officiant was an Elvis impersonator. Afterward, they ate In-N-Out burgers to celebrate.

20. Lavish: Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre

The two were married in a three-day wedding festival in 2019 in Morocco in front of 200 guests. Sabrina wore Vera Wang, while Idris wore Ozwald Boateng. Afrobeats star Davido performed. Fire-eaters, acrobats, and belly dancers performed at the welcome celebration, and there were fireworks at the reception.

21. Low-Key: Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston

The two were married in 2015 at their home in Bel-Air in front of just their close friends and family. In fact, they told guests they were attending a birthday party for Justin, then turned it into a wedding ceremony, which reportedly felt more like a “warm house party." However, Sia did perform "Chandelier," so it was a little more extravagant than your average at-home wedding.

22. Lavish: NeNe and Gregg Leakes

NeNe and Gregg, who had previously been married and divorced, remarried in 2013 in a $1.8 million wedding that was filmed for Bravo. NeNe wore a $50,000 Baracci dress for the ceremony and a $20,000 Pnina Tornai dress for the reception, which was Old Hollywood–themed, and served a custom 10-tier cake for the roughly 400 guests in attendance.

23. Low-Key: Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson

Meals on Wheels actually announced the couple's 2020 wedding, saying the couple had asked people to donate to the organization to celebrate their marriage. The wedding is rumored to have taken place at their New York home and to have been very intimate and small, due in part to the COVID-19 pandemic.

24. Lavish: Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise

The two were wed in 2006 at Odescalchi Castle in Italy. Katie and Tom reportedly spent £100,000 on just Chrome Hearts sunglasses as gifts for their guests, who included celebs like Victoria Beckham and Jennifer Lopez (who ended up performing one of her songs), and hired a fleet of limousines to transport them. The entire celebration reportedly cost them $3 million. Like Kim and Kanye, they paid for Andrea Bocelli to perform. Katie wore two Giorgio Armani dresses for the wedding, with Tom and their entire wedding party also outfitted in Armani.

25. Low-Key: Justin and Hailey Bieber

Like Sophie and Joe, the two ended up having a more lavish wedding later (pictured above), but their official marriage occurred at a New York City courthouse in 2018. Justin and Hailey reportedly told friends they were going to the courthouse just to get some paperwork, but ended up sealing the deal right then and there. 

26. Lavish: George and Amal Clooney

The two celebrated their wedding over a weekend in Venice in front of 100 guests, including stars like Matt Damon and Emily Blunt. The ceremony was officiated by former Rome mayor Walter Veltroni. Amal wore an Oscar de la Renta wedding dress and an Oscar de la Renta dress for the reception, where guests were served a five-course meal and 250 bottles of champagne, and which went until 5 a.m. The two then had a civil ceremony, for which Amal wore a custom-made Stella McCartney pantsuit. The entire wedding cost $4.6 million. 

27. And Finally, Low-Key: Ariana Grande

While Ariana spared no expense on her look for the night, wearing Vera Wang haute couture, the ceremony occurred at her house in Montecito with fewer than 20 close friends and family. They exchanged informal vows and danced on a carpet laid down in front of their fireplace.
