33 Things So Effective You’ll Feel Like You’re Hacking Life

So you can keep working smarter, not harder.

    1. An oil-free, microfine Urban Decay makeup setting spray that'll have your makeup looking as perfect at the end of the day as it did when you applied it that morning. It promises to extend makeup wear to 16 hours, though reviewers say it works for even longer — and lasts through sleep, sobbing, swimming, and more.

Promising review: "I fell face-first into ocean water, and my makeup still looked amazing. Literally expected my makeup to be completely gone by the time I got to my car because of how completely soaked I was. NOPE! And I still got my makeup complimented after! Lives up to the hype! Ocean: 0, Urban Decay Finishing Spray: 1." —Darlyn

Get it from Amazon for $16+ (available in two sizes).

    2. A clear, odorless stain-repellent spray if you spill drinks and food like it's a professional sport (honestly, same). This makes messes sit on the surface of your upholstery, carpet, and rugs so you can easily blot them away without leaving a stain. Proud gloating is optional.

Promising review: "This product is phenomenal. I'm the type of person who wants to disprove claims that seem too good to be true, so I sprayed it on an older white shirt and then literally dumped a cup of coffee on it. It completely repelled the coffee. No stains, no lingering smell. Since I'm both clumsy with liquids in hand and have pets who seem to prefer using my furniture as a bathroom, I've literally coated every piece of fabric in my house with this. It's definitely going to be a regular purchase for me." —Kelly

Get it from Amazon for $19.97.

    3. Miracle-Gro food spikes reviewers say work miracles to keep plants alive no matter what your level of green (or grim reaper) thumb is. They're filled with micronutrients to fertilize and feed plants for 30–60 days!

Promising review: "I am not a gardener and don't have a lot of luck with plants. That said, these spikes are amazing. You can see the difference in weeks. This is the best indoor plant product I have ever used, mainly because it is so darn easy. I definitely recommend these plant spikes." —V. Kline

    4. Plus, an ingenious pair of gardening gloves with claws at the end to make digging into soil approximately *checks calculator* one thousand times easier than using your bare hands or regular gloves. Reviewers say they keep dirt from getting under your fingernails, too!

Promising reviews: "I laughed when I first saw the picture of this item. I thought, well if they don’t work I’ll use them for a costume. But they are amazing at pulling weeds. I use mine for those pesky weeds in the rocks. One pull and you get root and all." —cynthia Williams

"I was skeptical about how well these are made. I stand corrected. These are well-made and will stand up to years of gardening fun. Besides, even if you never actually dig any dirt with them, they are well worth the exclamations of 'what the heck are THOSE?' from everyone.'" —Regmanabq

    5. A pair of comfy period-proof underwear designed to hold two tampons' worth of blood (which washes right out with water)! They're a *welcome* alternative to bulky pads (or having to worry about tampon leakage). Plus, they'll save you money since you won't have to deal with disposable menstrual products anymore. In a word, IDEAL.

My coworker Emma Lord loves these. She says: "These are ideal for overnight protection and for people who are worried about leakage during sports or physical activities. I personally always wear either of these period-proof undies when I go on runs on my period, and it has been a MASSIVE godsend. Also, unlike your regular undies, you don't have to scrub the blood out of these. They're designed so it rinses right out in the sink with soap and warm water, and can get tossed in the washer and dryer from there."

Psst — reviewers love these undies, but suggest sizing up!

Promising review: "It took me a while to finally give in and buy these because I wasn’t sure if they would work. I am kicking myself for letting them sit in the cart for that long, while I spent hideous amounts of money on disposable products that are freaking uncomfortable torture devices that let you down when you need them most. These undies are SO. WONDERFUL. I could cry at this point. I tried these for the first time this week. One of my worse, heavier monthly rounds. I crossed my fingers, packed lots of extra pads in case they didn’t work, and dove into my hectic day. I forgot I was wearing them. No crinkle puff-butt discomfort. No running for the bathroom. They didn’t even leak overnight, which, for me, is unheard of. I’m never going back." —Blythe

    6. A heated eye massage, which will relax you so completely that you might fall asleep before it's done (like I have countless times). Its combination of heat and gentle massage helps soothe stress, headaches, eye strain, and even insomnia. I literally never shut up about how much I love this thing (sorry, not sorry), but I truly believe this gadget improves my quality of life.

It sports five different massage settings, a 15-minute timer, and Bluetooth capabilities.

I bought this two years ago to help with dry eyes and migraines, and it is one of my favorite purchases maybe of all time. It has helped me with my eyes and my headaches, but also with so much more — it helps me relax when I'm stressed or anxious and puts me to sleep like a baby. I make sure I have this with me if I'm sleeping away from my apartment because I love it so much. It's also easy to clean with an alcohol wipe, or even with face wash. I was initially hesitant to buy this because it seemed a little pricey, but I'm SO happy I did. At this point, I think it's worth way more than I paid for it, if only because I literally don't know what I'd do without it. BTW, it does play automatic music when you begin the massage, but it's easy to turn off if you prefer (I always skip the music).

Get it from Amazon for $69.99 (available in three colors).

    7. touch-free Brümate water bottle, AKA the travel bottle you didn't know you needed — neither did I — that promises to change the lives of hydration enthusiasts. It sports an ergonomic handle for easy carrying, a leakproof design, and the ability to keep your drink cold for up to 24 hours — but the real star of this bottle is its twist-to-drink, touch-free straw, which allows for easy hydration sans cumbersome screwing and unscrewing, and without unhygienic exposure of your water to the elements that be.

I have been a wide-mouth Nalgene loyalist for a long time, resistant to even considering water bottle models with innovations that would make it easier for me to stay hydrated. Enter the Brümate Rotera, which has changed my water drinking game and has quickly become my favorite drinking receptacle. No more waking up after being about to fall asleep because I need to regain my sense of coordination to screw and unscrew my water bottle in order to get a late-night drink without spilling all over my bed. No more staring at the disgusting sludge on the rim of my water bottle, knowing I need to clean it but not even being sure where it came from (spoiler: It's from the mouth of my water bottle being open to the environment every time I drink out of it, an issue which the Brümate completely eliminates). I couldn't be happier with this bottle, and I'm already scheming for another one. Did I mention it's also really pretty?! I recommend you ~size up~ since you'll be drinking more water than you're used to due to the ease of this sweet bb, and you won't want to be constantly refilling.

Get it from Brümate for $29.99+ (available in four sizes and many colors).

    8. A bestselling lip-plumping gloss set, which makes your lips so luscious and full, you'll feel like you got fillers — for a literal fraction of the price and without actually injecting anything into your bod.

You'll get one lip plumper and one minty sleeping mask for your lips.

Promising reviews: "I loved this stuff, it was magic. The evening moisturizer was fabulous. It is the first plumper that actually works for me. Will be buying more for gifts!!!!!" —Alexandra

"I love this duo!!! I am a makeup artist so I've tried almost every lip plumper on the market! 9. A truly awesome end table with charging outlets that'll take care of all your needs like a good piece of furniture should. It has two shelves worth of storage space, a fabric organizer with five pockets for all your goods, andddd four outlets inside the top shelf so you'll never be without easy charging for your devices. 💅

    the black side table
Reviewer's nightstand with the top opened up, with words

It can be used as an end table, side table, or nightstand!

This is basically the nightstand of my dreams. For context, I've held off for a long time on furniture with charging capabilities. I figured plain-old side tables would be more than satisfactory since I already had outlets in the wall and I didn't really need anything fancy, right? One week into owning this outlet-equipped table, and I can say that I was emphatically wrong. TBH I'd probably be more embarrassed about my huge about-face if I didn't love this thing so damn much. No more hanging off my bed like a bat to keep my phone plugged into an outlet across the room, and STILL having the charger unplug from the outlet because it's been pulled too taut. No more having to choose which device I can use from my bed while charging because the outlet would only accommodate one at a time. And, no more dealing with the eyesore of overlapping cables crisscrossing on my nightstand. This wonder nightstand contains grooves on its sides so the top of the table can close fully without pinching the cables, hiding the sight of messy cords (and tucking away any private items you want to keep close by but not in sight).

There's tons of room on the top and bottom shelves to keep all your bedside items close, a delight for me since I like my bedside tables to hold a LOT so I have everything I need to chill before bed and in case I need ANYTHING in the middle of the night, lol. The fabric organizer is also an unexpectedly nice touch (no more misplacing my remote). Basically, I'm obsessed with this thing and I don't even want to think about a time when I didn't have it. I also think this is an amazing deal given that end tables half this size with no outlets often cost way more than this does. I'm already thinking about getting another one.

Get it from Amazon for $79.99+ (available in four colors/finishes and in packs of two).

    10. ChomChom pet hair remover with over 100,000 5-star ratings to actually get rid of the pet hair coating your house. It requires *no* sticky papers and collects all the hair in a chamber for you to easily dump out once you're done, so it's easier on your wallet and better for the environment.

Promising review: "I am allergic to cats so here I am with two cats who shed a ton. Their hair is covering all the furniture. I have special pet covers on my bed to protect my comforter but I hate having to sleep under it since my cats sleep on my bed. I have tried so many cat hair remover brushes, gloves, and sponges that never worked. I was ready to shave the cats and call it a day. Then along comes the ChomChom brush. It not only has a lint roller but a bar that collects the hair. I love the little hairball container of the roller so I don't have to spend time cleaning off the lint brush. I can't believe this product works! I have an off-white couch and I didn't realize how much hair there was. After I used it, my couch looked lighter in color. I got my comforter cleaned off in minutes. It's a simple and inexpensive way to cure your pet hair woes." —Dondi

    11. And a unique Uproot hair removal broom, which has a metal rake-like edge for removing the deeply rooted pet hair from your carpet and other large surface areas that are too ingrained for your vacuum to reach.

Its handle adjusts up to 60" high so you can customize it to you.

I live in a carpeted home with two *gorgeous* cats, but between them and my own hair, our carpets were starting to look pretty dingy. Our vacuum was helping do some damage control, but I was worried the carpet might have hair trapped deep down in its fibers. Bad news first: I was right, but the good news was that one round with this rake-like broom, and the carpets look practically new again. It brought up multiple fists' worth of hair, dust, and debris — so much hair that tbh it was a little shocking lol. It did take a little elbow grease and felt like a bit of an arm workout, but I didn't really mind since the results were such a relief (and I've been wanting to exercise a little more anyway). I'm so happy I invested in this, and it's worth the money for anyone with carpets who's ready for a deep cleaning solution that isn't just slapping a bandage on the problem.

Promising review: "I don't typically write product reviews, but I felt compelled to sing the praises of this one, because WOW did it make a huge difference! I have three dogs and three cats, so as you can imagine, things get a little hairy. After I used it once, my carpets looked brand-new. I was astonished by how much hair came out of the carpets since we vacuum every day and even have a Roomba. But this gets down where the vacuums can't reach." —Leslie

    12. An adhesive garbage guard to get rid of the flies and maggots circling your outdoor garbage can. Just stick this inside your garbage bin, and it'll release an odorless vapor that'll kill insects for up to four months.

This product is designed for use in outdoor or garage trash bins and dumpsters. Do not use in areas where people or pets will be for an extended period of time.

Promising review: "It’s what everyone says; perfect. I live on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi — hot, humid, and with plenty of moisture in the air. My garage, where my trash cans are kept, opens to a large wooded area. Lots of flies. Regardless of washing them out weekly, using bags with ties, or making sure to rinse meat packages and such, my trash cans were fly heaven and laden with maggots around trash time. Well, I stuck these where everyone said to, underneath the lid. In less than TWO days there were no flies or maggots. NONE!! Now, you might open the lid and have one flying around, but he won’t last long. Seriously, this stuff works better than described." —ztennyson

    13. And an indoor fruit fly trap for when washing the dishes and taking out the garbage isn't enough to get rid of your annoying infestation (*screams*). Put this trap near your kitchen trash, and you'll see a dramatic reduction in fruit flies within a few days.

Each trap lasts up to 45 days.

Promising review: "We get fruit flies every summer, but this year has been the worst by far. They land on any food you leave out, but worst of all...they hover around your face. I've tried a lot of different things, and nothing actually attracts the fruit flies. They're always attracted to everything except the bait that I put out! I bought four of these little apple-shaped fruit fly traps and filled them with a bottle of Terro bait. Within a week, each trap had at least 20 fruit flies. What's really cool is that you can unscrew the traps to dump the fruit flies out. Once the fruit fly goes in, it can't get out, and that is eliminating a great deal of them. I highly recommend trying these if you are suffering through a fruit fly infestation!" —KZ & SC

    14. A pack of 40 acne patches to easily help treat and heal blemishes using hydrocolloid *plus* tea tree oil and calendula to soothe irritated skin and reduce redness. They're extra thin without sacrificing any effectiveness, so you can confidently pop them on for work, school, and more, and let them get to work.

Reviewer acne before and after using patch

I recently tried Avarelle pimple patches, because *yes* I love a good hydrocolloid patch like little else. I wasn't sure whether these would be any different from the patches I already had from another brand, but I was so wrong. The Avarelle patches drew out gunk more effectively from my blemishes and gently sped up the healing process (I think because of the calendula, tea tree, and cica). My sensitive, reactive skin loves this stuff. I also could tell immediately that the patches were in fact thinner and more transparent than others I've had, which especially given how well they work is quite a feat. Will be a repurchase for me for sure.

Promising review: "YES! TikTok made me buy them and they 100% do what they should. I just pop them on before bed and by morning the blemish is ready to go. Will be ordering more." —Sky k.

    16. A tiny toenail brace in case every time you trim your toenails, another painful, gross ingrown pops up. This'll help straighten your nail to alleviate discomfort and prevent future ingrowns, and starts working within a few days.

This comes with a kit containing 10 toenail braces and tools for application. Each brace lasts 3–6 weeks.

After spending hours upon hours of my youth in tight cleats playing sports, I now deal with gross, painful ingrown toenails. I put off seeking a solution for them for a long time — I hoped they'd improve on their own (spoiler: they didn't) and was resistant to shelling out any money to deal with them. A few months ago, I lightly brushed my big toe against the floor, was met with bloodcurdling pain from an ingrown, and finally decided enough was enough. I ordered this kit and stuck the brace on my most severe ingrown. Honestly, I was astonished by the improvement this made, even within just a few days. Now, a few weeks later, my nail is straight and evened out as a healthy toenail should be, and it doesn't hurt at all when I wear shoes or when it knocks against something. They recommend you keep the brace on for a full nail growth cycle to fully correct the ingrown, so it'll be a longer road for me, but I couldn't be happier with the results so far. Note: The brace causes a very slight discomfort at first. If you feel any pain, you should take the brace off immediately and apply it with less pressure.

Promising review: "I never realized how curved and not-OK my toenails were. I thought the pain I had was just normal and a fact of life. Only when I read about the Curve Correct product did I realize that I had a major problem that could be resolved! Now I'm on the way to normal, flat toenails that DON'T grow curved into my skin!" —Jamie H.

    17. A cult-fave cold brew coffee maker that's blissfully easy to use. All you gotta do is put some ground coffee in the filter, seal the airtight top lid, and throw it in the fridge to brew overnight. GIMME.

Promising review: "This coffee maker is my BEST FRIEND! I use this every day, it's so easy to use! My coffee comes out perfect every time. I'm a cold coffee drinker and I put about 8–10 scoops of freshly ground coffee into the filter. I let it sit overnight and the next morning, I remove the filter and dump the grounds. It makes four days' worth of coffee and I love that it's ready to go for me, especially since I wake up at 4:50 a.m. and I need to make my coffee quickly! It's very easy to clean as well." —Panda

I finally ordered one, and I must say, I have no buyer's regret; unless it's to say I wish I'd gotten one sooner. I paired it with both my iPhone, which was quite easy, and my tablet, which was also quite easy. It's way better than using the keyboard on the phone. I'm really serious folks. It was wonderful. This is such an intelligent design, well-crafted and thoughtful. The twist-to-adjust base is genius. It also has a notch for cups with handles. Amazingly well thought out. It fits perfectly, it’s sturdy, and I couldn’t be happier about my purchase. Definitely worth it and solves the issue with a perfect design." —Sharon

Promising review: "Folks. Buy it. This is like head lice treatment. If you are looking at it and thinking about it, YOU NEED IT. And this stuff. Is. Awesome. Literally, chunks of ear wax came out of my ear holes the SIZE OF CORN KERNELS. Where was this coming from? Why is my body making so much wax? Where was it being stored because I did NOT think ear canals were that spacious, but apparently there are some storage closets in there or something because HOLY MARY MOTHER OF GOD the ear nuggets are real. My ears feel so squeaky clean! And get this, my hair makes sounds. Like I put it up in a hair tie afterward, and I could HEAR MY HAIR MOVING ON MY HEAD. What is that?! Seriously?! If you also did not know that moving hair creates a sound, you need to buy this product ASAP." —Samantha

Promising review: "He is my natural-born son and I would cry hot tears of sorrow if anything were to ever happen to him. Ok, so histrionics aside, I really really love this guy. This has been one of the best purchases I have made this year (if not ever) and I truly do think of it as an investment in myself and my mental health. I am lazy and hate vacuuming. But this guy? This little guy will just lightly whizz around the house over and over again, sometimes lightly bumping into things, sometimes jetting off into another room...just slowly but surely gathering up all the random dust, hair and other detritus that you don't even know about and might not be able to get to with a traditional vacuum. My life is so much more at ease knowing I can clean without lifting so much as a finger." —Jules

If you're like me and prefer to handwrite your notes and want an easy way to transfer them to a digital form, this is for you. I use this for work and school. Great to use for online math homework. It has the capability to text search your handwritten notes so everything I save is easy to find. 28. A decluttering food wrap organizer with a cutting mechanism so you don't have to struggle with dispensing your various foils and rolls anymore, wasting a bunch of product in the process.

As usual with things that would make my life easier that I've refused to buy, I was wrong to wait so long — as soon as I got this, it was clear: This is awesome. Before, all my parchment rolls, tin foil, and plastic wraps were piled on top of each other and crammed in a drawer. Now that they've all been ~decanted~ into this, my space is so much tidier and easier to maneuver. Best of all, I don't have to struggle with my plastic wrap constantly jamming, making me waste a bunch of it trying to evenly dispense it. All my rolls now consistently dispense effortlessly and easily, and I'm no longer dreading having to cut foil! It's everything. PS: The cutting mechanism has a safety feature on it, so you won't have to worry about nicking your fingers!

    31. A splurge-worthy Litter Robot here to make your life approximately one thousand times easier, while ensuring your beloved kitty (or kitties) always have a clean area to do their business. This high-tech gadget cleans your cat's litter for you, collecting the waste in a bag at the bottom of the bot after your lovey's finished and leaving the litter area full of only fresh litter.

My colleague Jenae Sitzes owns this and loves it. She says: "When my mom first told me about this $500 automatic litter box she'd read about somewhere, my eyes just about popped out of my head thinking about spending that much on a thing that my cats poop in. But after thinking about it some more, I realized it's actually a pretty reasonable investment since I plan on owning cats forever but shamefully hate cleaning out their litter boxes as often as they really should be.

"I've been using the Litter Robot myself for over a year now, and I'm pretty sure both me and my two cats are way happier for it. After a cat is done using it, the Litter Robot waits a set amount of time until the cat's presence is no longer detected, then begins to rotate, collecting the waste into a bag at the bottom while retaining the clean litter in the barrel. I usually don't detect a smell from it afterward, though once the bag starts to get really full, you might get a subtle reminder that you need to take it out. I only have to take out that bag about once a week, and a flashing light will let you know when it's full.

"Initially, the cats were a little spooked by the sound of the Litter Robot during a cycle, and for the first few weeks, they would just sit and stare at it, as if it would get up and run at them if they took their eyes off it. At this point, though, they've completely adjusted and accepted it as their way of life, making my life a heck of a lot easier while ensuring they always have a clean bed of litter. It's a pricey purchase, to be sure, but if cleaning out the litter box daily or even every other day is hard for you and you'd rather not think about it much at all, I say the Litter Robot is worth it. One thing to note: It's quite large, so make sure you have a dedicated space for it."

Get it from Litter Robot for $549 (available in white or gray).

    32. A portable TheraGun massage gun so you can massage your tense, sore body and actually get some relief — it penetrates 60% deeper into muscles than a typical vibration device. Just saying, it's also one of Oprah's favorite things

Reviewer using the Theragun mini on their shoulder

I recently had the *unparalleled* pleasure of using the Theragun for the first time. I initially was skeptical (like usual lol) that it would make much of a difference. I had a lot of shoulder pain from tight, clenched muscles that seemed to be getting worse and worse, and made it difficult to even sleep. When I turned it on, it felt a little strange at first — like a high-speed percussion that seemed to be flattening my muscles, but weirdly didn't really hurt. I spent a few minutes on each of my shoulders, and turned the Theragun off to discover that my previously clenched muscles felt completely liquid and at-ease. My pain was gone and my shoulders felt knot-free like I was a kid again. Of course, more than the knots, my real issue is storing tension in my shoulders, so it's not a permanent solution — a couple of months since then, I can feel the muscles knotting in my shoulders again. But! I feel sure and relieved that another Theragun session will clear that out again. I don't believe in miracles but this is a miracle. The definition of splurge-worthy.

I literally have over half a dozen people in my family who are colorblind, and I'll never forget when one of them tried these color-correcting glasses. He was so emotional and couldn't believe there were so many colors he'd never seen before. It was such a touching and impactful experience and has stuck with me for a long time. Promising reviews: "I got these as a gift for my girlfriend and for the first time in her life she got to see red and green and all the shades in between. She has severe deuteranopia and these glasses work!! She was speechless and began to cry when she first put them on. She said she had no idea the world was so colorful and now she doesn't want to take the glasses off. This is the best gift I ever gave anyone. I don't do reviews often but these glasses are awesome. Our only issue with them is they are a little big for her face and they are not the most stylish. Thank you Pilestone!!" —Matt S.

"These had the best reviews competitively for price/value/quality. My dad has been colorblind his entire life. We got these for him for Father's Day and he LOVES them. He has been having the best time wearing them everywhere! These are definitely most effective outside in his opinion, but do work for certain things he's looking at inside. He is VERY excited to take a trip up to the Northeast this fall and see real 'fall colors' that 'everyone has always been talking about' (his words lol). Definitely a great purchase and I highly recommend." —Katie
