Once again, Jason Derulo has addressed the many viral memes about him falling down the steps at the Met Gala in 2015.
In 2015, a photo of a man in a white suit who tumbled down a set of red carpeted stairs went viral on Twitter, and for some reason, Jason was identified as the tumbling man.
That year, Jason clarified on social media that it wasn't him in the photo and that he was actually all the way across the coast in Los Angeles.
Even though Jason had already long addressed the rumors, he told People recently, "There's still people on the planet that think that I'd fall down the steps."
Jason continued, "I've definitely seen some messages like, 'Are you OK?' But yeah, every single year, a couple of times a year... it's not even just the Met Gala anymore! It's kind of inching its way onto other events, but it's hilarious."
Jason spoke in an interview with Audacy News in 2015 about just how viral the meme spread. "My grandmother, she's 93 years old, and she called me, and she's like, 'Are you alright — you know, I heard you fell down the stairs.'" He continued in good humor, "I was like, 'Grandma, I'm good. I ain't fall down no stairs.'"
Now, the actual identity of the man in question, according to Newsweek, was someone who was trying to gatecrash. And further more, the event was not even the Met Gala — it was at Cannes! And, the photo wasn't even taken in 2015. It was taken four years prior in 2011!
Well, mystery solved!
This, once again, proves the internet is a wild place, but cheers to Jason for having such a good sense of humor about all this!
