1. Stop off at Bouddi National Park for a swim and one of the best coastal walks in the country.

2. Slide down the sand dunes near Port Stephens.

3. And while you're in the area, check out One Mile Beach.

4. Myall Lakes National Park is three-and-a-half hours from Sydney and pretty special too.

5. Leave your own pretty mark on a rock at the V-Wall at Nambucca Heads.

6. And get your obligatory photo at the Big Banana.

7. Woolgoolga, which is just 26 kilometres past Coffs Harbour, is a sweet coastal town with some cool markets.

8. Or, head inland towards Dorrigo National Park.

9. If you love prawns, pay Yamba a visit.

10. And if you really, really love prawns go check out the big one in Ballina.

11. Before you actually hit Byron Bay, take a slight detour and pay a visit to Nimbin.

12. And if you head a little north of Byron you'll hit Mullumbimby, where you can visit the Crystal Castle and Shambhala Gardens.
