10 Things To Know About The New Campus Center

The Campus Center project will begin construction soon. Here's what you - as a Georgia Tech student, faculty/staff member, alumni, or fan - need to know.

1. Parking will change.

As a result of the project, W03 and the Area 3 lot will be taken offline permanently. The Exhibition Hall and pavilions will be built in their place. Assignments will change to accommodate, so be on the lookout for more info from Parking & Transportation Services. Your cooperation in making this massive shift work is much appreciated!

2. You'll find new ways to get around!

The pathway you know from the Campus Recreation Center to the Student Center will shift due to construction fencing. You'll be able to cut through the Instructional Center quad or walk along the fence through the Instructional Center lawn to get where you're going. Other pathways around the site may shift periodically - keep your eyes peeled for wayfinding information.

3. The W02 deck will get a makeover.

The entrance and exit of W02 will change – watch out! The interior path will change beginning in early May, and it will also become a mixed use lot that includes paid visitor spaces.

4. The services you depend on in the Student Center will still be available!

Nothing about the Student Center's Current services will change until summer of 2020. They will exist throughout the project, but will be housed in temporary locations throughout Phase II. Learn more about temporary spaces here.

5. The Campanile is changing - for the better!

We’re enhancing and updating the area around the campanile to be accessible and allow more members of the community to enjoy our beloved campus icon! The Campanile will be taken down and properly stored during Phase II to keep it safe during construction. Don't worry graduates - the Student Center will create photo backdrops of the area while the area is under construction.

6. The project is as frugal as possible.

We’re trying to be good stewards of your money. Our Guaranteed Maximum Price is $110 million. That would be frugal for constructing or renovating a single building, let alone five. This means many spaces are low on frills in favor of spaces a) being lower cost to build and maintain, and b) having a “long life, loose fit”. This is to say our spaces will be able to sustainably serve a broad number of purposes over a long period of time.

Details on the renovations to the student center are still under development. One of the benefits to working with a design-build model is that we can continue to tinker with the plans and work to get things right for another year! We know that the theater, student organization space, Tech Rec, food hall, and other important services will be housed in the renovated Student Center, but we are still ironing out final designs for this building. Look for more of those details about the Student Center in Spring 2020.

8. There will be tons of new, exciting spaces!

These spaces include additional theater and performance spaces, reflection space, a graduate student lounge, and a multicultural space. Many of our current services will be significantly upgraded, like the move to a 12,000 ft² ballroom, triple the student organization space, and more room for Paper & Clay.

9. The sustainability and landscaping will be N I C E.
