    My Top Songs Of 2017

Here are some of the standout tracks from 2017. Songs range from chart toppers, house and deep vocal, and the always campy but memorable Eurovision tracks.

    1. New Rules - Dua Lipa

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

This is the one of two songs that could easily have taken out the top spot - and it just did, after much deliberation. I instantly fell in love with this song and the video clip is right up my alley. This is the only song in my list where even the remixes of the song were epic. Love the fact that it is an upbeat song about getting over a relationship.

    2. Shape of You - Ed Sheeran

I'm surprised that Ed Sheeran has charted so high on my list this year. I am not a fan of his and have never taken a liking to any of his songs. 2017 however, has made me appreciate his new music. This song reminds me of the summer when I was in the car with a friend driving home from the beach and this first aired on the radio. We both looked at each other and said that it probably won't do well in the charts because it doesn't sound like anything he's ever released. Boy were we wrong. It is almost the end of the year and this song is still charting steadily within the top 50. An infectious beat and catchy lyrics - hence the reason why it takes out second place.

    3. Despacito - Luis Fonsi ft. Daddy Yankee

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

Another song I initially hated. I think it was because of Justin Bieber. When I heard the original however, I was hooked and pleased I didn't have to hear Bieber's voice. Daddy Yankee has been an artist I have liked for years and the best part of the song is when he does his rap. This song also makes me want to travel to South America. Perhaps a trip is in order for 2018?

    4. Havana - Camila Cabello ft. Young Thug

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

Initially, I didn't see what the hype was surrounding this song. It just felt like an average song that peaked too high in the charts worldwide. The more it climbed the charts in Australia, the more fond of it I became. I just want to be in South America whenever I hear this song. Camilla, you are smashing it now that you've gone solo. You were the only talented group member and you did the right thing leaving the group to do your own thing. And you still have one more feature to come in this list.

    5. Ce S-a Intamplat Cu Noi - Irina Rimes (Dj Dark & Dj Remi Remix)

    View this video on YouTube

I still have no idea what this song is about - but it has been my go to song all year. I just want to be in European dancing in the sun when I hear it.

    6. You Don't Know Me - Jax Jones ft. RAYE

Whenever this comes on, I can't help but dance to it. Such a fun party song.

    7. Attention - Charlie Puth

Another artist I haven't been fond of prior to this song. I absolutely love the lyrics and the throwback vibe of this track.

    8. Your Song - Rita Ora

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

For a comeback song, this is great. And it's great because it was written by Ed Sheeran and it sounds like Shape of You. The video clip is awesome. I love the fact that everything is happening in reverse and the retro feel of the clothes and setting.

    9. Save My Soul - JoJo (DJ BARS Remix)

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

I have always loved JoJo, and this deep vocal house remix of her song was bloody awesome. I have no idea how many times I repeated this song the day I first heard it, and how many more times I repeated it after that - hence the reason why it is ranked so highly in this list.

    10. Ponteme - Jenn Morel

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

It seems like this year was the year that South America dominated my Top 10. Such a good song to exercise to, and one to just let your body lose itself in the beat.

    11. Ruleta - Inna ft. Erik

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

Inna is one of my personal favourite Eurodance artists. This song was a banger. I even wanted to request this on the radio here in Australia. She had a few average tracks this year but redeemed herself with this one.

    12. Scared Of The Dark - Steps

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

This one is mainly due to my loyalty as a fan of the band from when I was a kid. At the time of it's release, I was watching the Steps comeback reality show and was instantly hooked on this song. It's an older and more mature sound, but still has that touch of 90s Steps.

    13. Where I Am - Anja

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

Despite the fact that she flew the flag for Denmark, I was still rooting for this Aussie singer. The song was panned by Eurovision fans, but I loved it. It showcased that powerful voice she has, and the chorus was easy to remember. It kind of felt like a winner's song on X-Factor, but I still enjoyed listening and singing along to it.

    14. Go Bang - PNAU

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

Although this was released recently, I have played this non-stop since the day I heard it premier on the radio. PNAU dropped a club banger late last year also, and it too made it in my list. This one is just so contagious. It has that 90s dance feel, and the video clip is one of the best I have seen all year.

    15. Origo - Papai Joci

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

Here's another Eurovision song to chart highly this year. This one captivated me from the first hearing. It has such a strong European sound and the violin instrumentals during the song are breathtaking. The live performance was also stunning to watch with the dancer.

    16. Walk Away - Le Youth

    View this video on YouTube

I felt that Le Youth was speaking to my heart this year. Looks like we both had a breakup we were affected by.

    17. I Feel Alive - Imri

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

When I hear this, I feel alive. See what I did there? How can you not like this Eurovision track? The beat at the end is the icing on top of a perfect pop song.

    18. Dreams - Alex Ross ft. Dakota & T-Pain

    View this video on YouTube

I loved the original of this song by Gabrielle. Then, I fell in love with this version.

    19. Bodak Yellow - Cardi B

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

I too jumped on the Cardi B bandwagon this year. One of the best R&B tracks from a female artist to have come out in 2017.

    20. I Love You - Maxwell & Ingrosso ft. Kid Ink

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

So they dumped their mate and started making their own music. Best decision they made as I couldn't get enough of this song when it was released.

    21. Ciao Adios - Anne-Marie

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

I am slightly disappointed this song didn't do well in the charts, especially since this came out while she was at the top of the charts with Clean Bandit. Another upbeat song about saying goodbye to a toxic partner.

    22. Green Light - Lorde

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

It only took 4 years for Lorde to release her new album. The debut single was amazing. I give Lorde the "green light" to produce more songs like this one. Looks like a lot of singers turned heartache into dance anthems this year.

    23. Feels - Calvin Harris ft. Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry & Big Sean

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

Another song which took some time to grow on me - and when it did, I couldn't stop listening to it. I remember hearing it on the radio and thinking, that lady sounds good. Little did I know it was Katy Perry.

    24. Crying In The Club - Camila Cabello

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

Maybe I liked this because it sampled part of Christina Aguilera's, Genie In A Bottle. But I think there's more to it than that. She has amazing vocals and the clip was dark and sexy.

    25. It Ain't Me - Kygo & Selena Gomez

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

Initially, it sounds like a country song. Then the dance beat kicks in and takes this to a whole new level. Selena is killing it lately with all her tracks.

    26. Mama - Jonas Blue ft. William Singe

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

One of those songs you are bound to hear everywhere you go. Jonas Blue released another summer banger this year, and it even featured an Aussie artist. Well done.

    27. How Long - Charlie Puth

    View this video on YouTube

Charlie Puth has really changed my outlook on him. I am loving these pop songs infused with retro funk beats.

    28. OMG - Camila Cabello ft. Quavo

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

I literally said "OMG" when I heard this for the first time. It has sass and it is sexy. Much like Camilla.

    29. Symphony - Clean Bandit ft. Zara Larsson

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

I think this songs charts so high on my list because of the film clip. It actually made me cry when I first watched it. Such an emotional song.

    30. Anywhere - Rita Ora

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

In previous years, I never really liked Rita Ora. However, she too, like Ed Sheeran, has come back with a new style and sound and I am loving it. Although this is still fairly new to the charts, it has become a track I repeat several times a day.

    31. Stay - Zedd & Alessia Cara

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

Yet another song that was everywhere this year. And another artist I did not like, but took me by surprise. Alessia Cara's vocals suit this track and for that reason, I have appreciated her as an artist more.

    32. Nëntori - Arilena Ara (Bess & Gon Remix)

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

I initially heard this version of the song and loved it. I had no idea what it was about but it felt like a heartfelt apology. It wasn't until the English version was released (direct translation) that I figured out it was called Sorry, and it actually was an apology.

    33. Strip That Down - Liam Payne

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

I had a feeling Liam Payne would be the only One Direction member I would like as a solo artist. I was right. He sampled Shaggy's 'It Wan't Me' and made this sexy song.

    34. Scared To Be Lonely - Martin Garrix & Dua Lipa

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

When you're going through a breakup and you here this song, it kind of makes you feel shit about yourself. But put that aside, my girl Dua Lipa smashes this song.

    35. Romantic - Stanaj (NOTD Remix)

    View this video on YouTube

Most definitely a one-hit-wonder, but what a good one!

    36. Dirty Sexy Money - David Guetta & Afrojack ft. Charli XCX & French Montana

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

This is a new chart climber, but I have already thrashed the shit out of this one. I love the chorus and love the fact that Charli XCX has collaborated with two of my favourite dance artists.

    37. Something Just Like This - The Chainsmokers & Coldplay

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

Coldplay is collaborating with some amazing artists lately. Last year they had an epic song with Beyonce, and this year they have jumped on the bandwagon and released this dance track with The Chainsmokers, who have also been killing it in the charts the last few years.

    38. We Were Young - Sergiu Bolota

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

Everyone knows I love Eurovision. This was one of the national finalists for one of the countries this year, and it was my favourite to win. However, his live performance on the selection night was quite stiff and he was surpassed by an under-deserving song. Chilled song, perfect for a summer cruise or BBQ playlist.

    39. A Million Years - Mariette

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

Much like number 39, Mariette was my favourite to win the national final for Sweden. Her performance did not match the vibe of the song, but the song itself is such an ear-worm. Hope she does better in 2018.

    40. Falling - Alesso

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

As I stated earlier, Alesso is releasing some amazing dance songs lately. This is yet another fine tune to add to his repertoire.

    41. Issues - Julia Michaels

We accepted her issues, and she accepted ours. Such a cute song.

    42. Never Give Up On You - Lucie Jones

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

Here comes a sleuth of Eurovision tracks. First one up comes from The UK. Their best song in years. It should've done way better in the final, but this year was a crap year in terms of voting. I even cried when I heard this for the first time.

    43. Fly With Me - Artsvik

    View this video on YouTube

Armenia never fails to please. There was something so magical and edgy about this track. Still disappointed it did poorly in the rankings, despite the fact that this was a favourite to win.

    44. Apollo - Timebelle

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

I was captivated by the performance on the national final performance night. That red dress, next to the piano, and the vocals - 100% perfection. Shame it didn't make it past the semi-finals.

    45. Mantisa - Marina Satti

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

And here is a Greek song to add to the mix. Normally I don't include Greek songs, but this one is so quirky and so ethnic, it had to be featured.

    46. Mi Gente - J Balvin & Willy William

    Another South American banger.

    47. Gravity - Hovig

    View this video on YouTube

This was by far the best entry from Cyprus in years. Although it was compared to some top 40 songs for sounding quite similar, the dark and edgy sound is hard to pass on.

    48. Requiem - Alma

France has had to stellar tracks back to back. Shame this didn't do as well as it should've. She is hot and the song is hot.

    49. City Lights - Blanche

Another song that grew on me last minute. I couldn't see what all the hype was surrounding this track in the lead up to the Eurovision final. I hated the song so much and thought the clip was quite boring. But after the final, it grew on me. She was so cute in her black dress, and he voice is quite unique.

    58. The Cure - Lady Gaga

I am surprised this didn't do well in the charts, but lately I think the Gaga madness is fizzling out. I still like this one, not as much as Perfect Illusion though.

    74. I Fall Apart - Post Malone
