After the long agonizing wait, the new season of Game of Thrones is almost upon us! But we still have over a month until it's premiere, so here's a list of medieval swords and sorcery to hold you over until then!

1. Troy

This 2004 epic period film was written by Game of Thrones co-creator David Benioff and it's features some seriously sick action. Brad Pitt's Achilles is an unstoppable force, who defeats champion after champion. His fights against Boagrius and Hector are true stand outs.

2. Gladiator

A true classic of the sword and sandal genre, this film features action, political maneuvering, love, betrayal and a little incest (who said the Lannisters did it first?). Joaquin Pheonix as Commodus is the type of emperor Joffrey would admire while Russell Crowe's Maximus is much more of a Ned Stark figure.

3. Lord of the Rings Trilogy

One of the most acclaimed film trilogies of all time, Frodo's harrowing journey to destroy the One Ring is sure to please. With a star studded ensemble classic and some familiar faces (Ned Stark anyone?), you can't go wrong with Lord of the Rings.

If your favorite part of Game of Thrones is Dani and her dragons, well no one could blame you. This fun animated film from Dreamworks is great for the whole family (you can't say that about Thrones), and has all the dragons you could ever want!

If you're looking for something you can see on the big screen, look no further than King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. With blade swinging action, mighty magic and a gruff young hero who rises from humble beginnings, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword has all the makings of a medieval masterpiece.

I know, I know the title said action! But if it's political subterfuge you're looking for, you can't go wrong with House of Cards. Frank Underwood is a political schemer cut from the cloth of Littlefinger, a man who let nothing stand in his way on his quest for power.
