Every Taylor Swift Song That Is NOT About A Boyfriend

Taylor Swift writes about her relationships, just as every single other artist does. Despite having the same basic content as other singers, Taylor Swift is the only one who is so constantly scrutinised for "oversharing" her supposed too many relationships. Taylor Swift can write and sing about her relationships all she wants, but for the people who say that's the only topic of her music, here is a list of songs that have nothing to do with boyfriends or breakups.

I'm Only Me When I'm With You

    A Place In This World

In this song, Taylor sings about feeling alone and being a teenager with no idea of where she belongs in this world.

    Tied Together With A Smile

This song is about what it's like having only a smile to hold you together. It's about struggling with self-worth and feeling alone.

    Fifteen

This well known song is about starting high school, navigating love, making friends, and coming to realise what is really important in life.

    The Best Day

    Change

This is a hopeful song about the future and how things will change. She sings about how it can sometimes be easier to give up and walk away, but we need to come together and beat whatever demon we are facing, becoming stronger than ever.

    Mean

Taylor wrote this song in response to a journalist who wrote a disapproving article about her, saying she can't sing and pointing out other "flaws."

    Never Grow Up

    Innocent

Taylor wrote this song in response to Kanye West's interruption at the 2009 VMAs. Despite the hurt he caused her, Taylor writes this song as her way of forgiving him.

    Long Live

    Ronan

    Safe and Sound

This song was created to be a part of The Hunger Games soundtrack. It describes everything around her falling apart, burning to pieces, but she will be "safe and sound" if she just closes her eyes.

    Eyes Open

This song is also part of The Hunger Games soundtrack. It describes the feeling of being watched and people around you waiting for you to fall apart. It contrasts the feelings of playing innocently as a child to stepping into "a cruel world" where everyone keeps track of your every move.

    22

This song celebrates turning 22 and being youthful. In the music video, Taylor and a big group of friends dance and swim in a pool and just have fun, which is what the song describes. It's a song that gets you dancing, and of course almost everyone who turns 22 uses these lyrics as an instagram caption!

    The Lucky One

This song exposes the life of people in the spotlight. Taylor sings about how people say she's lucky, but it confuses her because she sometimes doesn't feel that way. People in the spotlight feel used and as if people only care about them for their fame, rather than who they actually are.

    Starlight

    Welcome to New York

    Shake It Off

This is an empowering song that tells people to not worry about the things strangers say to you, but to shake them off and live your best life in spite of others' opinions.

    Bad Blood

This song is about a friend who hurt and betrayed Taylor. She trusted this person but they let her down. In the music video, her squad of friends stand by her after Taylor was betrayed.

    Blank Space

    You Are In Love

Taylor wrote this song for her friends Jack Antonoff and Lena Dunham. Although they are no longer a couple, Taylor wrote this about their relationship and it was set to be the song they danced to at their wedding.

    Clean

    New Romantics

This is song is written for Taylor's friends and fans. It's a fun song with it's most identifiable lyrics being "the best people in life are free," referring to friends and fans who will stay by your side no matter what.

Look What You Made Me Do

This iconic song from Taylor's newest album, Reputation, is about the people who wrongly hurt her and tried to destroy her in a vulnerable time. She says how she'll come back stronger than ever, because she comes back "from the dead" "all the time."

    I Did Something Bad

This song voices some of Taylor's frustrations with how people treat not only her, but other women. The powerful line "If a man talks sh*t then I owe him nothing" is a good representation of what the song stands for. She also talks about people coming after her, even though she didn't do what they said she did. People just want someone to blame sometimes, regardless if claims are true or not.

There... you see? A LOT of songs about something other than a relationship, who would've thought?! But even if every song was about a relationship, it wouldn't matter. Because artists can write and sing about whatever they want and locals' opinions don't really matter :)) Thanks for reading!
