    Coffee For Keith Morrison

How a video from my seven year old to Dateline's Keith Morrison ended up as an in person chat...

It all started with a post on Instagram. A local Springfield, MO coffee company smiling happily with Dateline’s Keith Morrison. Well, I live right outside Springfield, MO and I FREAKED OUT. I am a self proclaimed Keith Morrison junkie. Keith pop-socket and all. A love my seven year old daughter, Tatum, adopted as well. What can I say? The man’s got swagger.

As a huge Dateline fan, I quickly DM’d Dateline on Instagram. I informed them Keith was in my hometown, per the coffee shop’s Insta post, and my daughter had a video for him. The Dateline social media rockstars were kind enough to pass it along to Keith. By the time Keith saw the video he had finished his interview and was headed to the airport...but told the Dateline crew if we could make it in time he’d be happy to meet with us. They relayed the message to me, and Tatum and I raced to the car; airport bound. The universe was clearly on our side, because Keith’s flight was delayed (sorry, Keith). In fact, we beat him to the airport. Dateline told us he’d be right inside and we could meet him at the rental car counter.

In walked our knight in shining armor. Okay, in Chuck Taylor’s and a timeless navy sweater, but you get the point. Keith strolled in to two of the happiest girls you could have possibly imagined. Beatle mania style happiness. We thanked him profusely for being kind enough to take the time to meet us. Because he’s the coolest man alive, he thanked US for driving to him and ASKED IF WE WANTED TO GET A CUP OF COFFEE. That’s right, coffee with Keith. Well, the Springfield, MO airport did not come through in the clutch, because the one coffee shop (though it’s amazing!) happens to be past airport security. I told Keith we were grateful for the gesture, but there wasn’t accessible coffee, or anything else, on the arrivals/baggage claim side of the airport. Like a boss, he told us it was okay and he was happy to sit down and chat anyway.

For twenty minutes Keith sat with us and talked. He asked Tatum questions, answered mine, and made us feel genuinely special. I didn’t want to overstay our welcome, though I could listen to the man read the phone book, so eventually we thanked him for the opportunity of a lifetime and bid our time with him adieu. But not before snagging some of the best photo and video gems of all time.

Bottom line: the Dateline social media team, and Keith Morrison, are cooler than cool. The social media team did not have to orchestrate that for us. But they did. And Keith did not have to use his pre-flight time entertaining a 33 and 7 year old. But he did. Forever grateful for the opportunity and the kindness. Dateline rocks my world, and Keith Morrison deserving of every bit of the fandom he receives.
