If You Read These 10 TikTok Viral Books, You'll Be Happy To Know They're Being Adapted In TV Shows And Movies

Honestly, the only thing that got me through this past year were the never-ending, spot-on recommendations from BookTok. Inevitably, when I found out that some of these books were coming to screens, my to-watch list only started to grow. Below you'll find 10 BookTok books being adapted to movies or TV shows.

1. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Washington Square Press

Synopsis: Evelyn Hugo, a Hollywood legend, decides to leave her autobiography in the hands of Monique Grant, an unknown magazine reporter. What's Evelyn Hugo's story? And perhaps most importantly — why did Evelyn choose Monique to write it? 

Originally written in 2017, this novel has been acclaimed from its release with it becoming a New York Times bestseller. In 2018, it even received a Best Historical Fiction Goodreads Choice Award nomination. In March, Netflix announced that the novel was finally coming to screens. Liz Tigelaar, screenwriter of Little Fires Everywhere, will write the screenplay and Reid will be a co-producer. So far, so details have been released about the cast or release date.

2. It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

Synopsis: Lily is ready to start her life after college as a fresh graduate. But she soon finds herself in a relationship with Ryle Kincaid, a surgeon she continues to cross paths with. The book explores their relationship, intertwining Lily's history of domestic abuse in her family and ultimately her attempts of finding true love. 

Colleen Hoover fans, this movie is definitely one you're going to want to add to your movie-watch list. Wayfarer Entertainment obtained the film rights back in 2019 and it's been in steady production. Back in September 2021, founder of Wayfarer Entertainment, Justin Baldoni, announced that the first draft of the script had been completed. Because of this timeline, fans are expecting the feature to make its debut sometime in 2023.

3. They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

Synopsis: Mateo and Rufus are in a similar predicament — they are both "Deckers," meaning they only have one day to live. After receiving the call from Death-Cast about this news, they find each other on Last Friend, an app that connects Deckers so that no one spends their last day alone. 

This novel is coming to the small screens. Drew Comins of Creative Engine Entertainment will be the Executive Producer of the series, with author Adam Silvera writing the script. It's still in its early stage of development, so no details about the cast or release date have been released yet.

4. Normal People by Sally Rooney

Synopsis: Marianne Sheridan and Connell Waldron are both damaged, but this allows them to develop a relationship almost no one else understands. Their pain is translated into an intense passion for each other. Normal People subtly comments on the influence of social class while giving life to the intoxicating feelings of a person's first love. 

No need to wait, Sally Rooney fans, this novel is already a TV series on Hulu. The series has 12 episodes and the story is pretty similar to the book. The main difference I noticed was that Marianne's relationships are more elaborate and fleshed out. The series goes more in-depth about Marianne's boyfriends, which allows viewers to understand her character better. If you love the book, you're going to love the series; the cast, script, and cinematography are all just as imagined.

5. The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han

To be honest, I liked The Summer I Turned Pretty series more than the To All the Boys I've Loved Before series, so I was super excited when Jenny Han announced this adaptation. The series is set as a long-form TV series, with the first season having seven episodes. You can stream Season 1 on Amazon Prime now.

6. Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

Synopsis: If you're looking for a sweet, secret romance, look no further: Red, White, and Royal Blue is the perfect pick for you. Prince Henry of Wales and First Son Alex Claremont-Diaz are royals in the political sphere, but they're also childhood enemies. Although a release date hasn't been set, the casting has been confirmed. Nicolas Galitzine, Prince Robert in Cinderella, will be starring as Prince Henry, and Taylor Zakhar Perez, best known for his role as Marco Pena in The Kissing Booth 3, will be playing Alex. It will also premiere on Amazon Prime.

7. The Selection by Kiera Cass

Synopsis: Thirty-six girls are vying for the heart of Prince Maxon Schreave in The Selection. America Singer has been chosen to participate in this event of the decade, but the problem? That deal is only first of her and Maxon's relationship.

This series is by far my favorite of all time — I've read the first three books at least 80 times (sorry Eadlyn, I'm an America fan). So it was super exciting when Kiera Cass announced that the TV series would follow America's journey. Netflix has the production rights, but it's been in the early stages of production since April of 2020. There aren't any details on the cast or release date, but Pouya Shahbazian, producer, did say that they already have the script, they just need the green light to actually produce the series.

8. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Mass

Back in March of 2021, Sarah Mass announced that the script was being written with Ron Moore, creator of Outlander. Although there are no details on the casting or release date, we do know that Hulu will be airing the series.

9. Heartstopper by Alice Oseman

Like Normal People, this series is available to stream now. The storylines are generally the same, except for a few new changes in the timing of certain events and development of characters. 10. Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney

There are a couple differences between the novel and the show, but it doesn't divert from the novel's overall themes and messages. All 12 episodes of the show are on Hulu.
