10 Life Lessons We've Learned From Chandler Bing

He may be saying more dumb things before 9 AM than most people say all day, but there is still a lot we can learn from Chandler Bing.

Chandler (Muriel) Bing, the iconic character from the most popular comedy show of all time F.R.I.E.N.D.S, is a master of sarcasm who did not only pull a ton of one-liners, but also came up with a plenty of life lessons. Portrayed by Matthew Perry, Chandler Bing is a cynical and socially-awkward but hilarious character who we all love. When he is not busy doing... (what was his job again?), Chandler is sharing wisdom, experience and sarcasm with his 5 best friends. After only 9 seasons, he finally made that long-awaited career change, but even during his time as a data processor, Chandler has taught us many important lessons about life, among which are the following 10.

    Dance Your Legs Off

from Season 4, Episode 20 - “The One with All the Wedding Dresses”
and Season 5, Episode 4 - “The One Where Phoebe Hates PBS”

Chandler is definitely the worst dancer of the group, but he provided the most hilarious dance moves in the show. He thinks his dance moves are seductive, sexy and lady-magnet, while they're rather hilarious. If we were to learn a lesson from it, that would be to dance like there's nobody watching. Let the rhythm move your body and don't you ever care how you look.

Don't Cling to Someone When it's Not Working Out

from Season 4, Episode 15 – “The One with All the Rugby”

Chandler and Janice are a perfect example of relationship that many have had: dysfunctional, desperate, hopeless. They didn't like each other, yet they found a way to comfort each other many times when they were feeling lonely. If it's not working out with someone, simply break up. Otherwise, you will need to move to Yemen and start a whole new life.

Relaxing After a Long, Hard Day is Important

from Season 5, Episode 2 - “The One Where Chandler Takes a Bath”

What better way to end a long, hard day at work than taking a nice, hot bath? Chandler may not be the hardest working employee in the world, but once he felt so relaxed that he couldn't care about anything, he could not get enough baths with flowery scents. Whatever your job may be, give yourself a break in a hot bath with some sea salt, ducks and a boat to make it more manly.

Hide Your Embarrassing Recording of Yourself

from Season 5, Episode 19 - “The One Where Ross Can't Flirt”

You probably remember when Joey's grandma came to visit and watch her famous nephew on TV and you probably remember that embarrassing home talent show from Chandler at the end of the tape that Joey prepared in an attempt to fake his TV appearance. If you don't want this to happen to you, delete or hide your most embarrassing snaps or videos and password-protect your phone, because you never know how, why and when can someone take the chance to humiliate you.

Don't Give a Damn about Looks

from Season 3, Episode 2 - “The One When No One's Ready”

Unlike Ross, who takes a good care about his teeth, tan and has his hair fixed 24/7, Chandler could not care any less about his physical appearance. If you haven't noticed or forgot how Chandler actually dresses, just take a look at Joey's outfit. It doesn't matter what you're wearing and how you look, but what are you underneath your clothes.

    Be Honest

from Season 8, Episode 17 - “The One with the Tea Leaves”

Whenever someone asks you a question to which a lie seems a more comfortable solution, it's much better if you'd answer honestly – regardless of the consequences. Being honest goes a long way and it's not only good for you, but for the other person as well. Next time you feel like you're not competent enough to offer a good advice on an asked topic, let them know and offer them a sarcastic comment instead.

Express Yourself as Clearly and Concisely as Possible

from Season 1, Episode 7 - “The One with the Blackout”

“Gum would be a perfection!” - said no man ever when asked for a gum, except, of course, Chandler Bing. Whenever you find yourself torn between using simple, short and clear sentences and fancy words that can make you sound like a pompous jackass, do yourself a favor and go simple.

Never Ever Fall Asleep in a Meeting

from Season 9, Episode 2 - “The One Where Emma Cries”

Sometimes, we're eager to get a meeting with our bosses and talk about raises, promotions and stuff like that, but other times, we just cannot keep our eyes closed. Thanks to Chandler, we learned how bad that can go and so now we would rather drink 4 cups of coffee and risk a heart attack than be moved to another country.

Don't Be Afraid of a Career Change and Get Creative

from Season 9, Episode 11 - “The One Where Rachel Goes Back to Work”

If you start feeling bored and unproductive in your current working environment, what stops you from quitting and looking for something new that will give you an adrenaline rush once again? Take a leap of faith, get creative and you will find your next challenge really soon. Of course, you might go through a little creativity crisis like Chandler did before he found himself an ideal job in advertising.

Don't Spare Your Friends from Witty, Sarcastic Comments

Last, but certainly not the least important lesson is to never spare your friends from your mastery of sarcasm. Come on, if they do not understand or accept your sarcastic comments, who else would? Even if they're mean, it's sarcasm and it's supposed to amuse you. Whenever you come up with a brilliant comeback, don't let it die in your head and say it out loud. Here are some of the greatest comebacks Chandler used:
