Everything You Need To Know About Dylan O'Brien's Upcoming Action Movie

Dylan is getting down and dirty - literally.

The first image of Dylan O'Brien as Mitch Rapp in American Assassin was released on September 12th, 2016.

Following that, more images of the cast and some of the behind the scenes action have been released from the film's official twitter account, starting from November 2nd, 2016.

And now, Lionsgate and CBS Films have just released the teaser trailer for the new movie, which is set to hit cinemas on September 15th, 2017.

But before it arrives in cinemas, here's a little background info about this action-thriller.

The film, based on the prequel to Vince Flynn’s series of novels, centres around Mitch Rapp, who after the devastating loss of his fiancée to a terror attack, becomes a CIA black ops recruit hell-bent on taking out the men who are responsible.

Under the instruction of CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy, Stan Hurley takes this motivated recruit under his wing and teaches him how to thwart terrorist operations and hunt the perpetrators.

Together, they investigate a wave, of what appears to be, random attacks on civilians and military targets. This leads them to discover a pattern, which forces them into a joint mission with a lethal Turkish argent to apprehend an unknown operative that’s intent on starting World War III in the Middle East.

The adaptation on Flynn’s novel, directed by Michael Cuesta, will star some big Hollywood names, including, Dylan O’Brien as Mitch Rapp, Michael Keaton as Stan Hurley, Sanaa Lathan as Irene Kennedy, Scott Adkins as Victor, and Taylor Kitsch (role unknown).

Main star of the movie, Dylan O'Brien, and producer, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, spoke to USA Today briefly about the context of the movie and how we can expect the characters and plot to be portrayed on film.

“What does it actually feel like to have your first kill? We explore that in an emotional context, not just a ‘we got the bad guy’ plot context,” Bonaventura comments on the directing style of the fillm.

“There’s a scene where (Kitsch’s character) is going to do a nefarious thing and he’s singing God Bless America. It really messes your head up when you hear it."

Speaking about his own character, Dylan O'Brien says “There’s an internal battle, absolutely, in terms of the pain he holds inside and how to correctly process that rather than just becoming a ruthless murderer".

“To be honest, it’s the biggest challenge of my life coming out here and starting up on this. It took me a while to get there, but I’m doing good," he says.

Fans of Vince Flynn's best-selling Mitch Rapp series can expect a few changes to the original story (as with any book-to-film adaptation) to help the plot streamline in film, but not so much so that it will steer away from the origins completely. Other things audiences can look forward to with this film is a whole lot of action and drama.

If critics and fans give the film a big thumbs up, it is more than likely we'll see film adaptations of the rest of the books in the series. Who knows, maybe it will even turn into a franchise like the Bond and Mission Impossible films?
