My Pick Of 5 Unique And Original Upcoming Techno Producers To Watch In 2020

The popularity of electronic and techno music has skyrocketed in the past ten years. Whereas a mere handful of pop stars once dominated mainstream music culture, today, electronic music artists are at the forefront of the festival circuit. The techno sub genre - typically associated with Europe despite being created in Detroit - is garnering more fame and notoriety in the United States than ever before, and with so many techno artists regularly making appearances on mainstream festival stages & radio stations, this proliferation has led to many upstarts in an already crowded field. While “business techno” might be on the rise, there are a handful of promising rising stars who deliver an uncompromisingly authentic and original palette of techno that’s beginning to turn heads around the globe.

My Pick 5 Unique And Original Upcoming Techno Producers To Watch In 2020

    1. Sophia Saze

Sophia Saze is the definition of a girl boss. A Hungarian living in New York City, Sophia runs her own record label, Dusk & Haze, that launched in 2017. During its launch, she debuted her LP ‘Solace’ as the label’s first release. She’s known for her wide range and variety of styles, which range from big-room industrial techno to minimally ambient soundscapes. Her music profile is growing rapidly and has emerged as one of the premier techno producers in New York. She will be playing the big COMPOUND LA event this spring in LA, as one of only 3 artists alongside the iconic Pan-Pot and Shifted.

    2. Figment

Figment is a Europe-raised, LA-based producer/DJ and host of the Not Figment Podcast. A self-taught producer, Figment is becoming a much buzzed-about name for his unmistakably original sound - despite remaining largely behind the scenes, industry players have taken note and he looks poised for a breakout 2020. Discovered while still completely unknown by Insomniac (the world’s largest festival promoter), he hit the LA underground circuit with a bang and will make his first major festival appearances later this year. The launch of the Not Figment Podcast in early 2020 cemented his uniquely historically-enriched perspective on dance music and gives listeners a glimpse into the mind of a rising talent with an enigmatic take on the genre.

    3. Bentley Dean

Bentley Dean is a Brit living in Chicago who rose to fame when Deadmau5 included his remix of BlackGummy’s “KT” on mau5trap’s We Are Friends Vol. 7. He then went on to play with artists like BlackGummy and Eric Prydz and has taken the stage at festivals like North Coast and Spring Awakening. He’s showed no signs of slowing down, and recently released his remix of Kill The Noise & Feed Me’s “I Do Coke”, as well as appeared on the latest mau5trap compilation, We Are Friends Vol. 9.

    4. Sara Krin

Although she’s a newcomer, the Spanish native has taken the electronic music world by storm with her very heavy sound and support from big acts such as i_o and Grittrip in addition to multiple Beatport Top 100 chartings and appearances at major clubs in Barcelona. While Sara has only played in Spain and Colombia thus far, there’s buzz circulating - the rise of her contemporaries like Amelie Lens and Charlotte De Witte has paved the way for this Spaniard to take her sound international in the months ahead.

    5. Theydream

Theydream is comprised of two Swiss brothers, Stefan and Jonas Roos, who work together as a DJ and producers. Born in Switzerland, the duo has created what they define as “melodic and atmospheric” music that is perfectly situated on their new home - none other than Boris Brejcha's white-hot FCKNG SERIOUS label, raising them to an entirely different level of popularity. They’ve received major support from tastemakers like Joris Voorn as they kick off what should be a big 2020 having delivered head-turning performances at Amsterdam Dance Event and the ongoing FCKNG SERIOUS label parties.
