We recently asked parents of the BuzzFeed Community for examples of outrageous white lies they've told their children. Here are some of the best responses from parents (and kids who grew up to know better)...

1. Eye can't believe this!

"All moms have eyes in the back of their heads. And no matter how hard you look, you can’t see them until you’re a mom yourself. My oldest is 8 and still tells me to be careful when brushing my hair, so I don’t brush my eyes."

"I told my children when they were going through their 'afraid of monsters' stage that I eat monsters, and in fact most adults LOVE to eat monsters because of how delightfully crisp they are! And it makes the monsters super scared of adults!

"When my kids were little, there was an old smoke detector on the wall in the hallway. It didn't work but had a small light on the side. The light changed from red to green for no apparent reason. I told my kids that was the Santa cam, and he could listen to or see them whenever he wanted. If the light was red, he was upset that they were misbehaving, and green meant they were being good.

"A few times I'd find them apologizing to it or saying how good they've been. They would check almost every day to see what color the light was. Their friends were sometimes jealous that they didn't have [a Santa cam] too."

I saw an opportunity, so I took it and told him that the Hulk was so cool, buff, and green because all he ate were green veggies. "To potty train my son, we told him that the cable man accidentally broke the TV, and it was now 'potty'-powered. It could only work if you went in the potty, and if there wasn’t enough, the TV would turn off. This was enforced by turning the TV off when he hadn't had a bathroom break in awhile."
