Emory’s diversity is part of its culture, and one of the advantages is that there are tons of events that celebrate students of all backgrounds, lifestyles, and affiliations. Jhalak is a completely student-run and directed annual play held by the Pakistan Student Association. The play highlights a different issue in Pakistan every year, and this year, Jhlak is focusing on women’s rights. Not only is the play an entertaining way to learn more about Pakistan, but there is also a traditional dinner after!

Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights and to celebrate this festival, the Indian Cultural Exchange (ICE) hosts a large celebration every year held at a hotel, typically in Midtown Atlanta. It is one of the largest and most well-attended events held throughout the year and is an event almost every Emory student tries to experience at least once during their time here. With lots of food and dancing, this is definitely an event you would not want to miss!

Diwali

The Moonlight Gala is an annual event hosted by several organizations on campus, including the Asian Students Organization (ASO), the Korean Undergraduate Students Organization (KUSO), Chinese Undergraduate Students Organization (CUSO), and Xi Kappa (a cultural fraternity). This event celebrates the Lunar New Year and includes a sumptuous dinner, plus dances and music performed by different student groups on campus!

Moonlight Gala

The African Student Association (ASA) is a student organization that aims to raise awareness about the different countries and cultures in Africa. Its annual Taste of Africa event is a time to try different foods, experience different cultural traditions, and see Africa through art, music and fashion! Last year was the 10th anniversary of this event, and to celebrate, ASA held the event at The Fox Theater, a cultural landmark in downtown Atlanta.

The French club at Emory hosts many events throughout the year, including a short film screening every semester. Whether you love films, good food, or all of the above, attending these film screenings is a great way to learn more about the Francophone culture.
