3 Ways One Day At A Time Can Be More Inclusive This Time Around

ODAAT One Day At A Time is back! After Netflix announced its cancellation sending fans into a frenzy, POPTV was able to save the hit Latinx show. As progressive as it may be it seemed to hit on every marginalized point except these:

1. Afro Latinx

Give an Afro Latinx (or two) a Permanent Role. Let's be honest, the show is pretty white... latinx. The show hits on LGBTQIA latinx, quinceañeras and recycled tropes while Black Latinx continue to be erased. Diversity in race is a good place to start. A dark skinned latinx please! Not an ambiguous looking one!

2. Indigenous Latinx

The family reunions are overtly white. Just because the main characters are Cuban or of Cuban descent doesn't mean best friends, love interests or new neighbors? Have to be.

3. Diversify the issues

If they diversify the cast, they should allow the casts to include diverse story lines as well. Don't use the new diverse characters as props* #Freebie It would be great to include a pelo bueno/pelo malo generational ignorance episode. It could help take kill that stereotype and exemplify how the older generations have problematic tendencies.
