This is not technically a memory but I distinctly remember a specific dream I had when I was seven or so where I was watching out my window and saw a small sedan pull up, Taylor Swift got out and she was leaning up against it smiling and waving so i ran out, she hugged me, I got in and she took me away to live with her. In some iterations (this was a repeated dream), she gave me a puppy. The specific iteration I vividly remember is when the sedan (light teal-ish green/gray) was parked in between the white house on the corner across the street (corner of Stanfield and Pokagon) and the house to its right.

I am somewhere forested and western. I am three years old or maybe younger. It’s a path and it’s slightly elevated and there’s a slight drop off to our right (we are walking towards the left of the screen if this memory was a movie scene) and my father is in front of me and I ask to be put in a Baby Björn because I am not in the mood for walking anymore. My dad says he remembers it vaguely and it must have been our family vacation in Oregon but no photos were taken so it’s weird that I remember.

I’m sitting at the back art table with my childhood babysitter who is ginger. Maggie is in second grade, and I'm four years younger than her. She is supposed to be making her first communion banner but instead me and her babysitter are. There is felt cutting. Very crafty. She is sitting on the floor by the bathroom door. Lazy!

When i was 3 my family lived in Chicago for a semester. My parents taught at UChicago and we lived in the city. I remember tulips. And I remember red carpet, and when you came in the front door, you were facing three steps that went to a landing and then split to the right and left in two different staircases. The walls were white. Outside were tulips. I remember something about a specific convenience store aisle too. My dad says there were tulips by our building.

There used to be these tiny metal pipe fences that were like three inches tall and on some corners of our blocks or in allies, I don’t know why. But on the corner of my block (Foster and Pokagon), there was one of these little pipe fences, and I don’t remember why but when I was like in kindergarten or first grade, something bad happened with my parents that ended with me in tears saying I was running away, so I put on my earbuds and borrowed my sister's iPod shuffle and listened to "A Place in this World" by Taylor Swift and ran away. I ran away to the little pipe fences thing on the corner and in the ally about a block away behind the Urbanskis (hosts of wiffleball Wednesday) where I sat and put my elbows on my legs and my face in my hands. Edgy. Angst. Art. Journey.
