This movie introduced one of the scariest horror villains of all time. The ultimate boogeyman! This movie doesn't rely on gore for scares. Instead it's heavy on the music and suspense. This movie is sure to give you a good scare. Michael Myers stalks a babysitter and her friends with the goal of killing all of them. He is able to kill all of them accept for three. Which three will survive? It's the night HE came home!

2. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

Wes Craven's 1984 masterpiece brought us one of the scariest and most iconic 80s slasher villains, Freddy Krueger. The way Freddy Krueger doesn't just try to kill his victims, but the way he tries to scare the living daylights out of them first is downright terrifying. He lets the reality sink in, and he lets them see the truth, they were going to die, and then, only then, would he put them out of their misery. You may be able to watch this movie safely, so long as you don't live on Elm Street!

3. The Exorcist (1973)

It's crazy that all it takes is one possessed 12-year-old girl to make you question your faith in god. The whole idea of this movie, a harmless little girl possessed by the devil, is scary AF! While watching this movie I was thrilled but it wasn't until afterward, late at night, lying in my bed, when the fear of this movie really hit me. Late at night is when everyone thinks all the thoughts they just can't bear to think during the day, but it is also the time when fear can hit you the hardest. And it hit me. Hard. Damn hard. Don't watch this movie if you want to sleep! You've been warned.

4. The Shining (1980)

I don't need even need to put this in words. Maybe the scariest horror movie ever made! This movies is a psychological thriller all the way! If you enjoy your sanity, skip this one! Jack Torrance is driven mentally insane after moving into a hotel with his family, his wife and his supernatural son with the ability to see into the future! The creepiest damn twins you've ever seen show up. A image flashes in front of Danny, the little boys eyes, and he sees two dead twins. He can see the future but when will it come true?

5. The Thing (1982)

This movie is so creative and incredible. In this movie there are bunch of people trapped in a remote location in Antarctica with an alien among them that could look exactly like a human and they would never know it. As they are trying to set up tests to find out who may be an alien someone is sabotaging them. They know one of them is an alien but they don't know who. If the alien reaches civilized areas, after only 27,000 hours the whole world population will be infected! They need to find everyone infected and kill them! This film is gory and suspenseful with a ton of jump scares. It probably has one of the best movie plots ever! Some horror movies are good only because they are scary, while The Thing, although it is terrifying, is actually a good movie separate from the scares!

6. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

Leatherface Sawyer is a severely mentally ill person. He doesn't understand that bloodying people to hell with a chainsaw is bad! That's what makes this so creepy and unsettling. Leatherface truly doesn't understand what he is doing is wrong. Leatherface and his family, Nubbins Sawyer, Drayton Sawyer, and Grandpa Sawyer encourage him to kill and eat people! What's so scary is that stuff like this actually happens. A bunch of young adults wander into a seemingly abandoned house and they are presented with Leatherface, a human-skin mask wearing, psycho, cannibalistic, killing machine! They attempt and succeed in killing four out of five of the kids. Will Sally, a girl who was abducted by Drayton Sawyer, escape her fate of being brutally killed, dismembered and eaten by the Sawyer family? This film is often considered to be one of the scariest movies ever made in the history of the world. This movie is also in my top three of personal favorites on this list!
