10 Computer Hacks That Will Completely Speed Up Your Day

Faster, better, bigger, stronger. Whether it's your home computer or your internet-enabled Ford with SYNC® AppLink, you don't have time to mess around with slow speeds.

Sometimes it might feel like your computer is fighting against you.

But you can get the most out of it with these tips. So, go show it who's boss:

1. Keep your dense file folders on an external hard drive.

Your image/document/movie files take up a lot of space on your computer. Move those files over to an external hard drive and keep your software on the computer to optimize space.

2. Delete software and apps that you don't use.

Doing a little computer "spring cleaning" is a great way to get some extra speed. Just don't delete anything that you might need!

3. Clean out your music, photo, or font libraries.

Some software comes with massive content libraries that you may not be using. Filter out some of those dense libraries that you don't use; you can always listen to "Don't Stop Believin'" on the internet.

4. Consider ditching a few languages.

Just like your font libraries, your computer comes with a huge archive of languages. It's probably smart to consider deleting a few that you don't speak... right?

5. Clean up your messy desktop.

Your desktop doesn't have the same space that your computer's hard drive does. Move miscellaneous files from your desktop to a file on the hard drive.

6. Use smaller resolution desktop images.

An image with fewer pixels will take up much less space. Try using photos under 72 pixels/inch.

7. Quit programs that are taking up too much power.

Your Activity Monitor (or resource monitor on PCs) tracks how much power each program is taking up. Turn off the programs that you aren't using but are taking up a lot of CPU.

8. Get rid of programs that open automatically.

Unless you need a specific program to open right when you turn on your computer, uncheck all your login items to speed up your boot time.

9. Shut down your computer sometimes.

Most computers have maintenance software that only runs when you shut it down. That software can keep your computer from getting bogged down by bugs.

10. And empty your trash.

No matter how much you avoid it, the trash has to be taken out at some point. Unfortunately, your computer has a much larger capacity for garbage than your nose. Routinely empty your trash to get rid of useless data and help make your computer function at its fastest.

When it comes to technology, don't settle for anything less than the fastest, and Go Further with Ford.
