5 Historically Incorrect Facts In Hamilton: An American Musical

1. John Laurens at Hamilton's Wedding

In Hamilton, John Laurens was at Alexander Hamilton's wedding. Right? Wrong. In history, Laurens was captured during the Siege of Charleston, South Carolina. He was confined to the state of Pennsylvania, and was not actually able to attend his best friends wedding.

2. Schuyler Brother?

The Schuyler Sisters, Angelica, Eliza and Peggy. In Satisfied, Angelica states that her father has no sons, but in reality they have a brother. His name was Philip Jeremiah Schuyler. He, much like the rest of family, was a New York politician. He was born on January 21,1768 and died on February 1835. He was the only male child to survive to adulthood out of the Schuyler kids.

3. Casue if the tomcat can get married...

In The Story of Tonight Reprise, Hamilton and his friends tease him about being the only one to get married. In reality, Lafayette, Hercules Mulligan, and John Laurens all had wives at the time. Lafayette being married to Adrienne in Paris, Mulligan being married to Elizabeth Sanders and John Laurens being married to Martha Manning. Although it kinda makes sense for Laurens, since he didn't tell Hamilton about his wife and daughter.

4. 7 killed Philip

In the Broadway Musical, George Eacker shot Philip on the count of 7. In reality the duel was a lot different. The turned around and both stood for around 2 minutes. George Eacker just randomly fired his gun and fatally shot Philip. Just a true fact so you can go and cry over Philip's death again.

5. 1801? 1800?

In Hamilton, Stay Alive Reprise comes after The Election of 1800. In reality, Philip was shot in 1801. The songs are reversed in order to presumably added to affect the mood in The Election of 1800 , but it's such a big detail, it was the first incorrect detail I noticed when I listened to it.
