Industry Leaders Who Money Meet Their Mouths

6 top-level voices of the people, some you know, some you may not know.

The call for action in today’s political climate is overwhelming. Few top level executives and key players in their respective business fields are taking the time to give back to the community in a way that contributes to economic growth and social awareness. Colin Kaepernick first seemed like a special case, when he put his career on the line to protest the abuse of power in law enforcement and racial discrimination. Kaepernick is not simply kneeling during the National Anthem at his NFL football games in protest, but he is actively involved in communities and recently donated $100,000 to four charities who main focus is to aid at-risk children in the inner-city. Russell Wilson is another notable top NFL player who allow their money to meet their mouth. Wilson has been consistently involved in the Seattle Children’s Hospital; this hospital is based at the very beginning where he began his career. He acknowledges that no matter who you are, people from every walk of life should give back. His stardom and position does not make him special in his charity, “I’m not perfect, by any means”, said Wilson.

Non-celebrity higher-ups in the world of entertainment has made activism a part of their lives like that of Kaepernick and Wlson. Entertainment insider and businessperson, Rachel Chanel Adams meets Wilson’s call of contributing to the community. As an activist, Adams promotes for industry leaders to get involved in the community, especially from the entertainment industry. She uses her expertise to identify the best methods for entertainers to give back to the community and organizes philanthropic opportunities around the world. Adams advises schools that give aid to children with disabilities in Peru and leads non-profit boards in Los Angeles to prevent unplanned teenage pregnancies. She “believes we all have to overcome issues to be the greatest version of our individual self”. Another entertainment leader that embodies the idea of paying it forward is Ty Stiklorious. Stiklorious “has spent her career helping creative vision thrive”. Through her social impact company, Friends At Work, Stiklorious focuses on cultural initiatives and diversifying artists. Stiklorious takes paying it forward to the next level through her outreach to bringing other executives into her own lane.As a great stalwart executive in her sector, the mission that she offers is an opportunity of a lifetime.

Adams and Stiklorious are major socially-conscious players in the music world but for artists there seems to be no greater young activist than Chance The Rapper. Chance’s involvement in the community, predominantly in his hometown of Chicago, ties and connects major companies to aid people in need. He has organized on behalf of the people with major companies including STATE bag sand Champion. On October 10, Chance announced his partnership through his charity Social Works with Lyft to raise money for Chicago Public Schools. Being that social issues are very connected with government entities, like public schools, there seems to be a void of government officials that take a stand that operate as activists. Marilyn Mosby is an example of how one can use their esteemed title of State Attorney – the youngest in the country – and selflessly promote social justice. Being from “a long line of law enforcement” she still identified injustice against the officers accused in the case of Freddie Gray in 2015. Taking the heat for her careful watch of the criminal justice system in the name of the people, Mosby perseveres in Baltimore to make sure that the law is on everyone’s side.
