Marcelthe Shell with Shoes On is a stop-motion animated mockumentary comedy film that follows an adorable and tiny anthropomorphic seashell named Marcel, who resides in an Airbnb with his grandma, Connie (a slightly larger shell), & their pet lint, Alan.
Although the movie premiered at the 2021 Telluride Film Festival and earned rave reviews, for some reason it stayed hidden in a shell, away from media limelight. But all that changed few days ago.
The movie melds charm-filled animation with live action to cook up a delectable and heart melting confection. Among the real-world characters that populate Marcel's world are the documentary filmmaker (Dean Fleischer-Camp), Conan O'Brien, and Lesley Stahl who is a favourite of Marcel.
Marcel is voiced by comedian and co-creator of the original series, Jenny Slate, and Marcel's grandmother by the famous Italian actress, Isabella Rossellini.
Some viewers must've recognized Marcel from 2010 when he first appeared in an animated short film by Dean Fleischer-Camp and Jenny Slate titled Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (yeah, it's literally the same name).
And now, the trailer for Marcel The Shell with Shoes On has dropped, sending a giant wave of adorability over the internet. In the trailer, Marcel introduces himself, his gran, and tells us that he misses being part of a larger shell community.
