My January 2024 Album Rotation

I've been listening to A LOT of albums on repeat this month, so here are the 3 I've found myself constantly starting over and over.

Orquídeas - Kali Uchis

Kali Uchis JUST released a Latin-pop fusion that is not only pleasing to the ear, but is full of incredible instrumentals and unique sounds. I'm obsessed with it and my Spanish roots are absolutely quaking (although I don't know any Spanish other than the beginning stuff I learned in college). Every time I'm in the kitchen now, I have to play "Te Mata" and pretend I'm in some sort of Spanish cooking rom-com and it's everything.

Snow Angel - Reneé Rapp

Reneé's debut album is phenomenal and there isn't a single song that I skip when listening to it. Her ability to make her lyrics introspective and unapologetic is something that is extremely difficult to do, especially at the beginning of one's career; but she does this flawlessly and with so much style. One of the things that makes Reneé and her music so intriguing is her blunt attitude - she's currently under scrutiny for appearing to have "no media training". She just says the first thing that comes to her head and is okay not having much of a filter, and I love that. It's especially evident on the song "Poison Poison" where she end the track with "I think you should shut the fuck up and... DIE; you get on my nerves; fuck you, you dumb bitch; fuck you, fuck you, fuck you". She's so herself and I hope this never changes even though the media is trying so hard to change it.

Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd - Lana Del Rey

I've always been somewhat of a Lana fan since she first became big with "Summertime Sadness", but I never really did a deep-dive into any of her albums or listen to her as religiously as I do now. Ocean Blvd came out last year, and, at the time, I'll admit, I found it a little boring. However, after rediscovering it earlier this month, I absolutely fell in love with the calming instrumentals and biting, raw lyrics. Literally the moment I listened to this album front to back, I bought the vinyl record the same day and then listened to it again as soon as I arrived home with it. I think I end up listening to the whole thing at least twice a day.
