Patty Jenkins Didn't Like How Joss Whedon's "Justice League" Portrayed Wonder Woman

"I think that all of us DC directors tossed that out just as much as the fans did."

If you're a lover of superhero movies, there's a good chance that 2017's Justice League wasn't your favorite.

Someone else who didn't like it? Patty Jenkins, director of Wonder Woman (2017) and the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984.

While speaking to the ReelBlend podcast, she gave her reasons for not liking the DC ensemble blockbuster, and they were blunt, insightful, and IMO, totally valid.

"I think that all of us DC directors tossed that out just as much as the fans did," she said when asked if she'd liked how Justice League handled Diana Prince.

"I felt that that version contradicted my first movie in many ways, and [the second] movie, which I was already in production on," she explained. "You would have to play ball in both directions in order for that to work."

According to Jenkins, she did have conversations with Zack Snyder, the original Justice League director, to make sure Diana's story lined up and avoid contradictions.

I'd be remiss at this point if I didn't remind you that Justice League technically had two directors, since Joss Whedon replaced Zack Snyder before the film was completed.

Ultimately, Snyder's version wasn't the film we saw in theaters, which led to a version of Wonder Woman that Jenkins said was "hard" to see.

Jenkins summed up her feelings, saying, "That Justice League was kind of an outlier. They were trying to turn one thing into, kind of, another. And so then it becomes, ‘I don’t recognize half of these characters. I’m not sure what’s going on.’"

Maybe the Snyder Cut, which is coming to HBO Max at some point next year, will feature a version of Wonder Woman that is more consistent with Jenkins' characterization?

Either way, we won't have to wait much longer to see Wonder Woman 1984, which looks even better than the first one, if that's possible.
