The movie is set to open in theaters on April 22.

Since the movie's announcement in 2010, fans of Simone — and even the icon's daughter — have voiced issues with Hollywood casting Saldana to play the artist.

In an attempt to make Saldana look like Simone, makeup artists applied dark makeup to Saldana's body and even crafted her a prosthetic nose.

And to no surprise, fans are STILL not here for it!

Like, not even a little bit.

People have questions.

Understandably so, because of this.

And this.

"My skin is black, my arms are long. My hair is woolly, my back is strong. Strong enough to take the pain, inflicted again and again."—Nina Simone

And this, too.

Valid arguments are being raised.

And Simone fans just can't even take the production seriously.

They're calling out Hollywood...

...and namedropping actresses who would have brought more justice to the role.

Viola Davis would've been amazing as Nina Simone.

@Luvvie is basically all of Black Twitter right now.

But fortunately, Nina isn't our only option to celebrate the legend's story.
