This is Brooklyn 99 final season (sigh) and they are putting the final nail in the coffin on this beloved show.

In the last season of Brooklyn 99, fans got a pretty cryptic trailer.

Who was that suit sitting at the desk. He looked so familiar? I went snooping on the interwebz and found my answer. John C. McGinley, the actor who played Dr. Cox from Scrubs and the one left behind in Platoon is playing a character in this ridiculously stacked cast in their final season. But who was he?

Don't crap and apple boys and girls. This guy means business. Frank is a staunch advocate of the men and women in blue and is described as being a cross between Archie Bunker and Yosemite Sam (sounds like a reprise of his character from Stan Against Evil?). In an interview John professes his character is a devout Billy Joel fan (he lives and breathes it) as well as being an avid hockey lover. This time though, his passion isn't with Chelios and the Detroit Redwings. This one has his own podcast with loyalty to the New York Islanders called "Islander Talk".

What is Frank up to in the Nine Nine?

This guy is going to be in the eyeline of every character including Andre Braugher's Captain Holt. We want him to finally become police commissioner in this final season but will it happen?

Frank's interest lies in only one thing: delivering in the best interest of his fellow union members as best he can. The name of his game is advocacy.

Is John C. Gonna Be The Big Bad Like In Chicago P.D.

If you are expecting the politically motivated, cold-calculated moves of Brian Kelton from Chicago P.D. ,think again. Frank is just a blue blooded cop who stands up for his people. Life isn't perfect though. This guy still lives in his mom's house and occupies her basement for his podcast. McGinley is no stranger to playing dysfunctional characters and can take a husk of a man and turn him into a goddamn hero. I have no doubt we will be seeing great things from him in this final season.

What about the whole thing with the issues like defunding the police and the whole police brutality issue?

Brooklyn 99 has always been a comedic workplace comedy but since the recent criticism on the police forces nationwide, the police have become a touchy subject. In an interview with Monsters and Critics, John touched upon the so-called elephant in the room.

"Dan is obviously a real bright guy and they had their ear to the ground. None of the George Floyd travesty was lost on them.
They saddled that one with meticulous care now because this guy, Frank O'Sullivan is an advocate and he does want to deliver for us as a union. And that is a slippery slope given that we were shooting this February when the trial was going down and I think they straddled it with all the elan and grace that they could. "

What Will McGinley Bring To The Table In This Final Season?

With all his experience in theater and comedic television he will definitely bring some new energy and comedic awkward situations to an already well groomed cast of laughable characters. If anything seeing a confrontation between Andre Braugher and John will be a wild ride!
