Being an aunt or an uncle is the best job on the planet - no matter if you're the most boring one or the most exciting one. Everyone can't be the perfect aunt/uncle, some have to be bad. While Sally Sue Sanders is the ideal aunt, Billy Bob Bouncer is slacking in the uncle category, and that is completely okay. Not every child needs an aunt or an uncle who is the best because while one is having a bad day and slacking, the other is having a perfect day and being the best. However, if you are an aunt or an uncle, these ten topics apply to you.

1. You were present in their delivery room.

•And although everyone told you it was going to be gross, it was one of the most amazing moments of your life. Watching your little niece or nephew take their first breaths into the world – even their first cries – was such a phenomenal, life-changing moment that you will forever remember.

2. They influence you in ways that no one else can.

•Not a bad influence whatsoever. They’re the most perfect influence. They force you to do your best every day, be your best every day, allow you to grow farther than you knew you needed, and make you become mature way faster than anything else. They make you a better you by just existing.

3. Along with influencing you, they taught you responsibility.

•Yes, they taught you to grow and become mature, but in the process responsibility was inflicted upon you. In order to grow up and mature, you have to be able to handle yourself and others at all times. You have to time manage. Make sure you and everyone that’s important around you get to where they’re supposed to be, when they’re supposed to be there. That isn’t an easy job and without them being born, it would’ve taken forever to get that responsibility.

4. You helped plan their name.

•How else would you be able to make their life memorable other than help plan their name and plant your mark on them before they were even born? Their name is something that will literally stick with them forever since it never goes away and that’s what everyone identifies them as. And you helped make them make a name for themselves with planning their name.

5. Anything and everything they do makes your heart smile.

•Their smile, their laugh, even their cry. They are the most perfect little bundle of joy in your eyes, even when they aren’t being so joyful. Everything they do makes you the happiest person alive. You don’t know why something like a simple laugh or even a horrendous cry would make you happy, but it’s just part of the aunt/uncle life.

6. You would put your life on the line for yours.

•Whether it be a shooter or a car wreck, you’d rather your life go in order for theirs to stay. That’s what you’re in their life for – to be their protector. And sometimes that protection could go all the way to you dying before them. It doesn’t matter though because when you become their aunt or uncle, you develop a motherly sense and want whatever is best for them.

7. Their birth is one of your most vivid memories.

•Not your 16th birthday party or your first dog, their birth. You remember everything about it – the way the room smelled, the color of the shirt you were wearing, the way the lights flickered. Every single small detail was a major detail for you that day.

8. Their birth was a huge surprise to you and you were overjoyed about it.

•Your family told you after they had found out, but expected a very different reaction from you. They expected you to be mad or upset about it, but instead you were so extremely happy about it. Not only were you surprised about it happening, your entire family was surprised at your reaction.

9. Every day you strive to make them happy.

•All your actions when you’re around them are directed and focused on making them happy. So much as a smile or a laugh makes you happy because you know in the end you made them smile. When you’re playing with them, if they aren’t happy, then you aren’t happy. Your mood is dependent upon their mood and that could be either really good or really bad.

10. They bring you a feeling of home.

•Just being in their presence makes you calmer, happier, and a better person. You don’t get this feeling from anyone else – not your boyfriend, your best friend, or your parents. You don’t know how it happened or when it happened, but you aren’t angry it did happen. While they are your home, you are their home as well.

If all ten of these points are true for you, I hate to break it to you… But they have you wrapped around their finger and you know work for them. I’m kidding…Maybe…Kind of, not really. They have control over you in a weird way because they mean so much to you that you’d do literally anything for them. But the aunt/uncle life is the best life, even if you are controlled by a 3-year-old. It’s okay, everyone will get their someday.
