Dump Your Ex’s Stuff and Say Hello to Healing

Valentine's day is a romantic day for couples but those dealing with a break up don’t fret Goodwill is here to help.

Posted on

Head out to Horizon Goodwill today and ditch your baggage. Ladies, that oversized sweater, ditch it! Guys, the scarf that reminds you of good times, donate it and move on.

Books, DVD’s, gifts and love letters cluttering your space will send you into a downward spiral. “It’s always important to get rid of your ex’s stuff because if you’ve got it was hanging around, you’re still psychologically clinging onto the past," says Dr. Cheryl Fraser, psychologist and passion coach. "By getting rid of it, you create space, for now, either for the relationship you’re currently in or to get into another relationship without hanging onto what used to be,” says Fraser.

Goodwill will help you with that break-up guide to Spring-cleaning. Horizon Goodwill will accept any items an ex-boyfriend, girlfriend or spouse left behind after the break-up, at any of its more than 20 donation locations across the four-state area as part of the nonprofit's annual “Dump Your Ex’s Stuff” donation drive.

“Break-ups can be painful, and they are never easy. We are taking a lighthearted look at Valentine's day and helping people to move on. Getting rid of old items can stop people from being stuck in the past. Donating old clothes will help individuals in our community to get full-time jobs and vocational training. So it’s a win-win situation.” Says John McCain CEO at Horizon Goodwill.

Donations are critical to the programs offered by Goodwill.

Almost 6,000 people in our local community were helped with life-changing skills, further education, and support. Nearly 300 people got full-time jobs through the work of Goodwill.

“Just be sure the item is something that wasn’t expected to be returned,” adds McCain.

Remember, every time you donate to Goodwill you receive a donation receipt, and it's tax deductible.

All items donated to Horizon Goodwill as part of the Dump Your Ex’s Stuff donation drive must be the sole property of the donor. Horizon Goodwill and participating partners are not liable for items donated that do not belong to the individual giving.
