36 Problem-Solving Products Runners Will Want On Hand This Summer

Psst — these comfy, reviewer-beloved compressive bike shorts have over 35,000 five-star reviews.

    1. A sleek pair of sports sunglasses designed to stay put on your head without hurting your temples — a perfect way to get sun protection *and* flex a casual "cast me in your action movie" look at the same time.

Promising review: "Bought these for running, 10/10. They are lightweight and fit just snug enough to make them feel secure but not uncomfortable. The wrap-around lens gives excellent sun protection. The case is very durable and keeps them clean and secure when not in use. While I bought these for running I have started to use them when mowing the lawn as they give such good coverage over the eyes when on the zero turn. I have been a runner since junior high and still enjoy it. I run typically three times a week. These are the best running sunglasses I have ever used. I also like the look of the orange reflective tint. I may just buy another pair for the tractor and leave one pair dedicated to running. In short would definitely buy again." —mark gosling

The colors are great, just like the pictures. Overall, I am very happy with this order and will most likely order the other colors." —R. Scott

Promising review: "Purchased two pair for my running shoes (49-year-old male). They work very well, have put a bunch of miles on them. No more tying/untying, just slip on. I like how they keep unified tension across the entire laces from top to bottom. I have had no issues with the lace lock at all, it snapped in well." —Scott

A reviewer in the orange hat
A reviewer holding the hat folded up neatly, showing its reflective quality in the dark

A lot of runners steer clear of hats because of the whole "you lose the most heat through your head" thing, but that's actually a myth! Plus this hat has bonus reflective edges for higher visibility and folds neatly, making it super packable for running adventures. Go live your hat-filled dreams.

Promising review: "I went on a run with this hat, and I was pleasantly surprised. It is very lightweight. The hat completely covers my head from the front and reaches around a low pony tail, which is why I love it. It is reflective too. The really cool part is how it folds. There are two creases on the bill, so it can completely fold up. And when you’re wearing the hat, the bill stays firm and in place. I was just trying to get a good price on a running hat, but I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality and features. I would recommend this hat. I’ll be getting another one for my friend." —Calista Brown

I cannot express how much I LOVE being able to run with my hair in a high pony like I prefer. I absolutely love the deep sea color and it matched my running shoes which made me extra happy. Reviewer popping the lid open to reveal the silicone spout on the purple blue ombre version of the water bottle
A reviewer holding up a pink time marked water bottle

Promising review: "I love the finish on the bottle! I hate holding wet water bottles and this does NOT sweat! It also holds two full bottles of 16.9-oz. packages water bottles so it’s very easy to get my full water intake on the go! Easy to carry, fits in my car's cup holders perfectly (not big at all like some water bottles). I got the ombré purple to teal and it’s very true to color. Easy to clean, wide enough for bottle brushes, and the straw stays put. I also love how I just push the little button by the mouthpiece and it just pops open quick for easy drinking (if you’re driving and don’t need to be messing around opening bottles😉). Highly recommend this water bottle. For the price, it’s amazing! Keeps my water cool for hours too." —Alicia

    Amazon

The straps are also comfy and adjustable and made with a machine-washable nylon fabric that won't overheat you. *Plus*, it comes with storage for things like keys, credit cards, and ever important snacky snacks.

Promising review: "I needed a sturdy water pack for daily hiking trips. This thing carries about two liters which, for a simple day hiking or a quick run, is more than enough. I've yet to run out and that's with me basically keeping the tube between my lips and having a drink every minute or so. Both of the straps adjust perfectly and running or climbing hills it doesn't bounce at all. The bladder has a big opening to fill. It's big enough that I fill about half of it with water and the other half with ice cubes so I have cold water all day long." —Amazon4Me

Get it from Amazon for $19.98 (available in five colors).

    10. Plus a set of Bottle Bright tablets, because anyone who has ever owned an insulated water bottle knows it's just a matter of time before gunk starts to form in nooks and crannies — this is an easy way to clean oddly shaped ones.

Promising review: I didn’t take a before/after picture but I wish I did! I used my first few tabs on my insulated water bottles to just wash/refresh and I didn’t realize how amazing these bad boys really are and wasn’t using them to their full potential. I don’t know what kind of black magic is packed into these little tablets, but they’re totally worth every penny. If you have a stainless steel cup that you’re thinking is nearing the end of its life due to stains (coffee, tea, soup, etc.) or have a water bottle that’s just a pain in the rear end to clean, invest your hard end cash in this glorious invention and save yourself some elbow grease and save your favorite travel mug from unsightly slime and stains!" —jtobear

With running being one of my hobbies, I thought I’d never run again without being in extreme pain. These little contraptions have changed my life. I now run without even the slightest pain in my knee. The only thing is that it’s kinda uncomfortable without long pants on. But that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to take for no pain. I’d highly recommend." —Amazon Customer

I bought these for running last year and I am SO MAD whenever they're in the wash that I'm planning to buy a few more pairs this summer — the material is nice and thick, so I thought they'd overheat, but they actually stay lightweight and cooling even on my longest runs. It fits any phone up to 100mm x 170mm (or about 3.9 inches x 6.7 inches)..

Promising review: "Did the job! Purchased this to use during a color run, to keep my phone protected against the powder and possible water. It is a little bigger than I thought so it can hold a phone with or without case. I used it for my iPhone 6 without a case. went through quite a few powder stations, and then also there was a spot after the race that had water balloons for the kids and adults. The case held up, no powder or water got on my phone. When I got home I took my phone out, completely dry. I was a little worried that the case would create a sweat inside the case cause during the race at one point my phone felt warm from taking pictures but nope, no sweat, no powder, and no water from the water balloons. Very good purchase, would recommend." —Daniele

I am obsessed with it." —Jenn

    28. A pair of comfy period-proof underwear so you can either skip out on bulky pads that tend to *not* fare so well when you add heat and sweat, or have an extra layer of protection in case your tampon doesn't quite rise to the challenge. These hold two tampons' worth of period blood, so you don't have to worry about ~surprises~.

They're also ideal for overnight protection (you can pair them with a pad if you have a heavy flow) and for people who are worried about leakage during sports or physical activities. I personally always wear either these period-proof undies or the ones from Thinx when I go on runs on my period, and it has been a MASSIVE godsend. Also, unlike your regular undies, you don't have to scrub the blood out of these. They're designed so it rinses right out in the sink with soap and warm water, and can get tossed in the washer and dryer from there.

Psst — reviewers love these undies, but suggest sizing up!

Promising review: "These are WONDERFUL!! They are super comfortable, soft, have a mild compression to them, breathable, great coverage, not bulky at all, and super absorbent!! You don’t get that metallic blood scent coming through either which I was super skeptical about. So the packaging states that they recommend using these as a backup to another period product like a cup, but I tested the hell out of these babies for my entire period as the only form of protection and left my cup in its drawer. I’m in my thirties. I’m not a super heavy bleeder but I do have fairly heavy days. For the test I used one panty per day (24 hours) and never once had a leak, wetness feel, smell, felt uncomfortable or had bulkiness. When I rinsed them out in the sink after the 24-hour test the amount of blood was astonishing. As you rinse it there’s definitely that old blood kind of metallic smell. Then I just washed them on the gentle cycle and air- dried them. Super easy, does take a long time to air dry though. I’ll likely buy more so that I can have daytime and nighttime sets." —Becky

    29. A bottle of tea tree essential oil  to cover a whole bunch of your bases — reviewers use it to help cleanse buildup on their scalps, prevent dryness, and help soothe red patches and irritation, but runners use it to help with foot irritation brought out from running and even to help freshen up running clothes that have lingering sweat smells on them.

Promising review: "This is a very good tea tree oil. I have been using it for my diffuser and to treat my feet. I am an avid runner and biker and this oil helps soothe and treat hot spots on my feet." —Kenneth C. Griffo

*Another* promising review: "This stuff has so many uses! My son loves to run and is very athletic. He sweats a lot! I could not get the funky smell out of his workout clothes! I did a lot of research, and came across tea tree oil. So if any of you are trying to get funk smell out of gym clothes, this is what you should do. Pre-wash your clothes with just vinegar ( a cup or so) and in cold water. After that wash your clothes normally with detergent, but NEVER use fabric softener (especially with your DRI FIT clothes). Instead of putting fabric softener in your load, add about 4–5 drops of tea tree oil in the fabric softener dispenser. This has gotten all the funk out and it smells fresh!" —Vella

    Emma Lord/BuzzFeed

Hey, there's my face again! This mask has the approval of a *ton* of runners and athletes in its reviews, but also runners IRL. I run in Central Park four days a week and I am constantly seeing other runners in this mask. I have two of them in my own run rotation, and I'm impressed not only by how well they stay in place and don't get over-sweaty and gross on long runs, but by how well they wash up and maintain their shape. The straps are super soft on your ears, too. I've gotten to used to straps chafing on longer runs that I was surprised by what a difference this made. I gifted one of these to my dad for Christmas, too, and it's his go-to for walks and errand running. It's just an overall easier mask to breathe in (while still maintaining a tight fit and keeping the people around you safe!).

Promising review: "The best mask. A friend recommended this mask and it is wonderful. I wear it when I run outside — it allows me to breathe, while keeping me safe. It is a thick mask, and the ear bands are 'light' and made of elastic. Perfect." —LSM

    33. A compression foot sleeve to help manage heel pain and plantar fasciitis that you can sneakily wear right under your socks, unlike bulkier solutions that'll make you wayyyy too sweaty in the summer. The compression is so effective that even reviewers with chronic pain swear by them!

Promising review: "I've had plantar fasciitis for two years now on an off. I workout a lot. I've had temporary relief from steroid injections, night splints and physical therapy but it always acts up when I run. I tried these and they make it so much bearable to workout and run again. They are tight so take some getting use to but I have I would say 85% relief running with these on now after. Definitely recommend for plantar fasciitis people." —Sam

    35. A set of ever-handy Nip Strips, adhesive strips you can put on your nipples if they chafe against your running bra or running shirt in the heat (that don't hurt to take off!).

Promising review: "These are the best protection I have found to prevent painful chaffing. They go on easily they stayed on for my entire triathlon through the swim, bike, run and peel off without pain. I’m not sure how they managed to make a product that is waterproof and sweat-proof and still peels off painlessly, but they achieved just that." —MWigTX

    36. A collapsible mesh laundry hamper to separate workout clothes that are totally soaked in sweat from the rest of your regular human clothes (and to let them air out a bit so they don't get mildewy before your next wash).

Promising review: "The mesh-ventilated sides means dirty uniforms and other lightweight gear like sweaty headbands and stinky socks can be thrown in without worrying that weird bacteria will ferment and grow before wash day. We keep two hampers in our mud room. The tall, narrow size has a small footprint, and it can be folded up and tucked away in between uses. I wouldn’t recommend it for heavy-duty fabrics like jeans and blankets, but for lightweight use – even if filled to the brim – it’s a handy little hamper. My kids carry it over their shoulders like a bag to the basement laundry room. It's not bulky, is easy to use, and you can’t beat the price." —Melanie Gilbert
